The True Alpha of Lupine (Seraphina and Ronan) novel Chapter 143

Chapter 143 No Ronan

RONAN

“You say you’ve known all kinds of women,” I said slowly, my voice rougher than I intended. “Then tell me, why does she burn with such fury when I worry for her? When I try to protect her? Why does my possessiveness make her lash out, when it’s only because I love her?”

Aran gave me a smile that was both handsome and cruel in its precision. “Instead of asking me, ask yourself this: when you were so busy worrying for her safety, were you aware of how she felt? Or did you hurt her without realizing it, blinded by your own possessiveness?”

His words struck like a blade, cutting through my defenses. I remembered that night, my hand gripping her arm too tightly, my words sharp and accusing. I hadn’t asked if she was alright. I hadn’t comforted her after she and her wolf nearly unraveled under the weight of the rut in the air. Instead, I had let my own emotions consume me, silencing hers.

“Burning in guilt or drowning in anger will take you nowhere,” Aran continued, his voice steady. “Think about her instead. Think of her life, the experiences that shaped her–her pride, her confidence, her sense of self. For a woman, these are her greatest ornaments, more precious than jewels. Tell me, are you certain you did not trample over them?”

Inside me, Verkas fell still, silent for once, as something twisted painfully in my chest. Aran was right. I had not listened to her. I had only thought of myself, my fear, my possessiveness, my desperate need to keep her safe. In my silence, I had wounded her deeper than any enemy could.

That’s when it struck me. The reason she had been angry was not because of my questions or possessiveness. She was hurt because she wanted me to trust her, and I had failed her.

My heart trembled at the realization, the truth slicing me open from within.

Aran chuckled at the look on my face, the smoke from his cigarette drifting between us. “We men call women complicated,” he said, his tone almost fond, “but the truth is they’re extraordinary. All they ask, what they truly crave, is a man who is emotionally present, who understands her soul as well as her body. That is the man she can never look past.”

He slid the cigarette between my fingers, his eyes gleaming with quiet challenge. “And when a woman finds that man, the one she can never look past, she will hold his hand, and only his, no matter how many others reach for her.

Chapter 143 H Bes

My heart skipped a beat.

The hand she was holding right now was mine.

The man she had just stopped from losing control was me.

The man she couldn’t look past, even with Ryker right in front of her, was me.

Me, and only me.
