The True Alpha of Lupine (Seraphina and Ronan) novel Chapter 148

On the tenth day, the Alpha instructor appeared in the morning not with the usual brutal training or punishing drills, but with something entirely unexpected. His announcement left us all bewildered.

“Gather all of your belongings and hand them to the dormitory assistant,” he ordered, his voice clipped and commanding.

Immediately, everyone scrambled to obey, though murmurs rippled across the group.

“Are we finally leaving this damn forest?” one whispered eagerly.

“I think so!” another replied.

“Fuck yes! I can’t wait to sink into my cozy bed and eat something that isn’t crawling or half raw!”

I had little to pack, just another set of clothes and a few necessary items I’d stashed in the branch of a tree. Slipping them into the bag the dormitory assistant provided, I handed it over like everyone else.

Something seems off,” Phina said in my mind, “This brutal training, taking away our belongings but not talking about returning to the dormitory or Academy.”

I nodded in response. I believe that I was not the only one who noticed that. My eyes swept over Asher, Finn, Ryker and Ronan once.

When the assistant left, the instructor continued, his tone sharp.

“Today, you will hunt your own meal.”

A collective grin spread across the Alphas‘ faces, hunger sparking in their eyes.

“Yes! I’ll hunt a damn elephant if I have to!” someone shouted.

Starvation had turned us feral. Alphas required more food than ordinary wolves, yet over the last few days, what we’d been given amounted to little more than scraps, a cruel tease for our ravenous bodies.

The instructor’s lips quirked with amusement. “Hunt and eat whatever you wish. Just remember, this forest is more dangerous than you can imagine. No

one hunts alone. Pair up.”

At once, everyone scattered into pairs, some joining their closest friends, others grabbing whoever was available. I, however, remained still, scanning who was left. My stomach tightened when I realized only two stood without partners. Ryker and Ronan.

My heart plummeted.

Both of them. Both watching me.

I turned away at once, heat rising in my chest. I would rather face the beasts of this forest alone than be forced to pair with either of them.

But in looking away, I noticed someone else, Asher. He was striding silently into the forest, alone, as though the rules meant nothing to him. Something about the way he moved made unease coil in my gut. He was wrong. Off. Dangerous in a way I couldn’t name. Thankfully, the instructor’s sharp eyes didn’t catch him.

Soon, pairs began to vanish into the shadows of the trees. The instructor’s voice rang again. “Alpha Cassius, paired with Alpha Seth. He has no partner.”

I froze. My gaze darted to Cassius at the edge. I had nearly forgotten him. Since Reed’s expulsion, he had been alone, silent, brooding, and unsettlingly withdrawn. He hadn’t spoken much or tried to mingle. Now, I was ordered to hunt with him?

My skin crawled at the thought, but an order from an instructor wasn’t one I could refuse. My legs refused to move, every instinct screaming against it.

Then a broad shoulder blocked my view, followed by a hard chest and a voice that made me blink in disbelief.

“Seth Darven, let’s go.”

I snapped my head up. “Finn?”

It was the first time he had spoken to me in ten long days.

“Let’s go,” he repeated/gesturing to the forest before striding forward with quiet confidence.

My gaze, unwilling, flickered back to where Ryker and Ronan lingered, still watching. Their eyes clung to me like a weight, but I tore myself away and

followed Finn into the trees. Of all the choices, Finn was the safest, most comfortable option.

Or so I thought.

I jerked back instantly, heat flaring up my neck. His eyes flickered to me, and for the briefest moment, I feared he had noticed something unusual in my form. Though he said nothing, his expression remained unreadable.

Chapter 148 2

My stomach clawed with hunger, and the gnawing ache inside me begged for prey. I wanted, no needed, to catch something soon.
