I let my wolf take over and ran through the Academy’s forest for hours, yet the fury burning. inside me never subsided. Instead, it only grew wild, uncontrollable, consuming. Seraphina was the only thing on my mind, and restraining myself from taking her right then and there was nearly impossible. But I decided to wait until Percy returned, until I got my hands on the footage. She was allowed to smile until then.
Holding back the rage, however, came at the cost of my sanity. Slaughtering animals in the forest wasn’t enough. I craved blood.
Shifting back into my human form and pulling on my clothes, I strode down the Academy’s corridor when an unfamiliar young wolf, laughing with someone, accidentally bumped into
- me.
I froze, repulsed and instantly triggered by the unwanted touch. His face instantly drained of color. “I–I’m sorry…” he stammered, stepping back.
That last thread of patience snapped. I seized him by the throat, my fingers tightening, ready to twist his neck when a trembling voice broke through the haze.
“Please…please forgive us!”
My gaze snapped to the side. A young she–wolf no older than eighteen or nineteen, stood there with tears streaming down her face, the same age as the boy I was about to kill. “It was all my fault…please forgive him, Alpha,” she pleaded before collapsing to her knees.
As she bowed, her neckline gaped open, revealing the soft curve of her breasts and pale, smooth skin that momentarily caught my attention.
“My, my…you offended Alpha Ryker the moment you arrived,” Aran’s lazy voice drifted through the corridor.
He stepped closer, helping the trembling she–wolf to her feet before turning to me. “Kindly forgive him, Alpha Ryker. I apologize on behalf of my staff and offer you instant healing for that wound of yours, if you’ll accept,” he said, gesturing toward my arm.
During the hunt earlier, I’d gotten a deep gash while in wolf form. I had simply wrapped it with a strip of cloth on my way back, but somehow, he’d noticed.
My wolf growled low in my mind. “I’ve always felt this healer was more than he appeared. If we let him heal us, he might discover our wound isn’t healing now”
“Then it’s the perfect chance to see if he’s truly as skilled as he claims,” I mind–linked back, my tone edged with challenge. With a sharp growl, I threw the young wolf aside. The she- wolf instantly rushed to his aid, clinging to him. “Time to find out who he really is.”
With that thought, I turned and strode into the common room of the healer’s wing.

Aran began tending to my wound, his hands glowing faintly as he worked. He used some kind of magic, but not once did he seem to sense the truth, the hidden flaw in my wolf’s healing.
Or he was simply too good at controlling his expression.
“And…done,” Aran said finally, releasing my arm.
I looked down. The wound was completely gone, no scar, no trace, nothing.
“So, you’re a wizard?” I asked flatly.
“Just a healer who knows a little magic,” he replied with an easy smile.
“This doesn’t seem like just a little magic,” I pointed out, watching the faint shimmer still fading from my arm.
“That’s because whatever I do is always exceptional,” he said, his tone dripping with pride and self–admiration. “Even little things look grand when I touch them.”
Not wanting to waste another second on his nonsense, I began dressing, tugging my shirt into place when the she–wolf from earlier entered the room carrying a few items in her hands.
“Healer Aran,” she stammered, immediately flinching at the sight of me.
“Put them on those shelves,” Aran instructed without looking up.
She nodded and crossed the room, her movements careful and quiet. My eyes followed her slender back as she bent to put the items away.
“Who is she?” I asked, my gaze lingering a moment too long on the curve of her hips. Her appearance was ordinary, but her figure reminded me unsettlingly of Seraphina.
“She’s the omega with big dreams,” Aran replied casually. “Wants to become the first female healer in this male only Academy. Impressive, isn’t it?”
“Impressive?” I echoed, buttoning my shirt. Seraphina’s bold words about claiming the throne and leading a pack flashed through my mind, stirring irritation in my chest. “More like a donkey in a horse race.”
Aran frowned. “She might hear you.”
“Who cares?” I said coolly, fastening my watch before meeting his gaze with a hard, blank stare. “Women who try to take a man’s place are bound to be crushed sooner or later.”
With that, I turned and strode out of the room.
