The moment I stepped into the lake with Ronan, everything else faded away.

The water surrounded us, cool and still, but Ronan’s touch was fire against my skin. His hands gripped my waist, pulling me closer as his lips brushed my neck, sending waves of heat through my body. We moved together beneath the surface, our bodies gliding, intimate and slow, the weight of the world forgotten. His kiss was hungry yet tender, claiming me in silence. Breathless, I melted into him, our hearts beating in unison. With a final, lingering kiss, we broke free from the depths, emerging together in the middle of the lake.

Gasping for air, I blinked against my wet lashes as Ronan ran his hand threw his hair pushing it back but his eyes devoured my naked chest as our bodies were barely an inch away from each other.

“Every time I look at you, you get even more irresistible,” he whispered, his lips crashing against mine.

I kissed him back, our breaths mingling as the heat between us intensified. His lips were insistent, hungry, as if he couldn’t get enough. His hands slid up my back, pulling me closer. The clean taste of the water mixed with the fire of his kiss, deep and desperate.

Time seemed to stop as his mouth left me breathless, my heart raced. But as he gently bit my lower lip, the kiss broke, and I was left gasping. Suddenly, I felt something pressing against my belly.

“Y–you!” my eyes snapped up at him. “Why are you hard?”

He raised an eyebrow and pulled me even closer to his hardness. “Baby, do you expect me to stay soft when you’re naked and this damn sexy in the water with me?”

My cheeks flushed, and I struggled to hide my smile. “Did you bring me on this date just for that?” I asked playfully.

“Well, this will be like dessert after the main course,” he smirked.

“Main course? What is that?” I asked, curious.

Before he could answer, the lake water began to move like waves in the sea. Tiny colorful fish circled us, shimmering under the surface, and the stars above reflected in the water like they had fallen into it, each glowing with a soft red aura that blended with the night.

“So beautiful,” I breathed as fireflies rose from the trees, lighting up the lake like floating lanterns.

I cupped my hand in the water and a small fish slipped into my palm.

“Do you like it?” Ronan asked.

I bit my lip. “I love it.”

The fish leapt back into the water as I turned to take in the magical scene. “I’ve never seen anything this beautiful, Ronan.”

When I faced him again, a butterfly landed on his finger. He held it out to me and it instantly flew to me.

“Oh my god!” I gasped, my happiness bursting out. “Is this real?”

He smiled. “Yes.”

“But how did you do it? Is this magic?”

“No,” he murmured, watching the butterfly settle on my hair like a delicate bow. “It’s just control. The control my Lycan has had since birth.”

I reached out, and the butterfly fluttered away. “Control…over your powers?”

He nodded. “You can do it as well.”

Suddenly the memory of the Grand Hall flashed in my mind; the deaths, the chaos, and then my eyes drifted to his still–healing arm. My heart tightened.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, moving closer.

“Nothing…” I forced a small smile and swam away.

But Ronan reached me in seconds, cutting through the water and coming right in front of me. “This is about your powers, isn’t it?” he whispered, pulling me gently against his chest.

My heart skipped. He read me too easily.

I gave a small nod. “My powers aren’t in my control,” I admitted softly.

He listened to me quietly, his eyes never leaving mine. “What do you mean?” he asked softly.

“I honestly don’t know when the Blood Petal becomes active,” I confessed. “In my fight with Asher, I wasn’t trying to kill him, I was fighting for my own reasons. But before the last clash…I found myself enjoying it. The rush. The violence. It felt so delicious that I almost made it bloody and gory, forgetting everything. That was when you stepped in front of me.”

My voice dropped to a whisper. “Seeing you snapped me out of it. But even then…I couldn’t pull my powers back completely, and I ended up hurting you so badly.”

My heart squeezed. “I don’t know how to control it, Ronan. And I’m scared I’ll hurt people, do things I can never undo.”

He held my gaze, listening without a single interruption.

you know what control is, Seraphina?” he murmured, taking my hand and placing it on. his chest. “It’s your heart, your mind, and your soul.”

I felt his heartbeat beneath my palm, steady, strong.

“The power lives inside you, everywhere,” he continued. “But it shows itself differently for everyone. You don’t need years of study or training. Because our powers beg to be controlled.”

He lifted my hand gently from his chest, clasping both of our hands together. My heart raced at how softly, how surely he spoke.

“The power inside you will try to get your attention. It will call to you, show itself to you. Because it isn’t only you who becomes addicted to the power, Seraphina,” his voice dropped, intimate and compelling. “The power is addicted to you. It wants you to use it, claim it, command it completely, just like it has claimed you. And because of that… it beats inside you.”

As his words sank into me, the mark between my brows throbbed, sharp, electric, and my breath hitched. When I focused on that pulse, I saw it. A white flower blooming inside me.

Our clasped hands glowed faintly and when we opened them a butterfly fluttered free.

My mouth parted in awe and pure delight. “I–I did it.”

Ronan’s lips curved into a slow, proud smile. “Of course you did. Because now…you have control over your powers.”

My heart pounded, full of disbelief and sudden clarity.

All this time, I’d thought the throbbing of my mark was a warning, a bad omen. But it was my power calling for me.
