As for Riley’s meaningful parting words at the airport and that odd smile–they did trigger a faint, fleeting sense that something wasn’t right in his mind. But he barely had a moment to dwell on it before the feeling was washed away by the next challenge heading his way.
He needed to get to the hotel right away to deal with Sophia.
Not long after he left, at the other end of the terminal, Riley handed over the plane ticket and passport to the woman who resembled her.
‘Have a safe flight,” she said plainly before turning and walking off through the staff–only corridor. Outside, a car arranged by Sebastian had been waiting.
She slid into the back seat and told the driver in a clear, detached tone, “The Dalton Hotel, please.”
t would be a shame to miss the final act of this drama.
Jp in the hotel’s presidential suite, the space had been transformed into a lavish dressing room.
Sophia sat before a large vanity, wearing the custom–made gown that had been designed for Riley–yet somehow it fit her >erfectly.
The white fabric cascaded around her like the petals of some sacred bloom, leaving her looking radiant and poised.
Beside her, a top stylist fastened an expensive diamond necklace while showering her with praise. “You look absolutely stunning oday, Ms. Myers. Truly luminous.”
‘Do I?” Sophia met her own gaze in the mirror, her eyes glittering with triumph,
She felt a thrill run through her–she hadn’t looked this breathtaking even the night she won Best Actress.
After years of patience and planning, she had finally reached the day when she would rightfully become Mrs. Ashford.
Sure, her methods hadn’t been entirely honorable… but so what?
She was the one coming out on top.
Even if high society in Havenbrook turned their noses up at her for a while, with the Ashford name behind her, she’d always have a place here–able to crush any criticism under her heel.
Just then, the suite door opened and Lucas‘ tall frame appeared in the doorway.
“Lucas!”
Sophia rose, pleasantly surprised, and draped her arms around his neck affectionately. “I’m so happy today!”
Lucas didn’t react much. He simply let her hang there and swept a casual glance over her carefully prepared appearance. “Yeah? As long as you’re happy.”
Downstairs; the hotel ballroom was already buzzing.
Nearly every notable figure in Havenbrook had received an invitation–though the wording was deliberately vague, noting only an

Yet the extravagant setup spoke touder than any invitation: rose arrangements flowing like oceans, crystal–lined aisles, decor fit for a royal wedding. It was clearly no ordinary corporate gathering.
Guests murmured among themselves, speculating about what this lavish event was truly meant to announce.
Close to noon, the house lights suddenly dimmed, and a single spotlight hit the center of the stage.
Lucas walked out with steady steps, wearing his usual polished smile.
He took the microphone from the host, and his deep, resonant voice filled the room.
“Thank you all for coming today. I’m here because I wish to propose to a woman who means everything to me.”
Everyone in Havenbrook knew Lucas was legally married to Riley.
Almost immediately, someone close to the Ashford family called out from the crowd, “Way to go, Lucas! Making up for never proposing to Ms. Harper properly?”
Lucas‘ smile didn’t falter. Facing the crowd’s growing curiosity, he simply shook his head gently, microphone still in hand.
“No.”
That single word brought the room to a hushed standstill.
Not Riley? Then who?
Just as Lucas drew a breath, ready to speak the name he’d prepared-
“Cut the act, Lucas!”
A furious shout erupted from the crowd.
All heads turned to see Alexander, eyes bloodshot, shoving his way forward. In a few swift strides he bounded onto the platform and snatched the microphone right out of Lucas‘ grip.
