“Faked?” Lucas let out a cold laugh. “Then how do you explain all these different men in the photos with Alexander? You expect me to believe he hired actors for every single one?”
Sophia was still scrambling for an excuse when Alexander’s face reappeared on screen–this time wearing a look of vengeful satisfaction. As if the spectacle wasn’t dramatic enough, he dropped another bombshell.
Reaching inside his jacket, he pulled out a document: a DNA test report.
He held the results page up toward the cameras below–and directly toward Lucas.
“Too bad, Lucas. Bet you didn’t see this one coming, did you?” Alexander’s voice was thick with cruel delight. “A man’s worst nightmares–his wife cheating on him, and raising another man’s child as his own And tonight, you got to live through both.”
Lucas stared at the enlarged report on the screen, unable to believe what he was seeing.
He knew every word, but strung together, they read like a sentence from hell.
There, in bold under the results section, it stated, “Lucas Ashford and Jeremy Ashford are not biologically related as father and son.”
Vo… This can’t be.
He stumbled backward a step, muttering almost to himself, “That’s impossible… The report Sophia showed me back then clearly said Jeremy was my son…”
The boy he’d cherished all these years–wasn’t even his?
Alexander seemed to guess his thoughts. Through the screen, he delivered the final blow.
He laughed, harsh and loud. “Sophia bribed every major testing lab in Havenbrook. Any time samples from you and Jeremy were submitted, there was only ever going to be one outcome!”
The enlarged DNA report shattered whatever was left of Sophia’s composure.
She could barely keep her balance. Staggering toward Lucas, she clutched his arm desperately.
‘Lucas, don’t believe him! You can’t believe him!” Her tear–streaked face tilted up toward him, voice trembling pitifully. “How could Jeremy not be yours? He looks just like you–especially around the eyes…”
‘Looks like me?”
Lucas slowly glanced down at her hands gripping his sleeve, a cold sneer forming on his lips.
“Really?” he shot back. “Then explain this to me. No one in the Ashford family has ever had an allergy. So why is Jeremy deathly allergic to something?”
Sophia went completely still.
Now, with solid evidence in front of him, it didn’t take much for Lucas–sharp as he was–to connect all the dots he’d once chosen to ignore.

Below them, the crowd’s earlier envy had twisted into naked contempt and ridicule.

Given the situation, the only way to salvage his reputation from this scandal was to pin everything on Sophia and play the devastated, deceived victim.
Otherwise, Alexander’s revelations would tarnish not only Lucas, but the entire Ashford Group, making them the laughingstock of Havenbrook high society.
With that thought, Lucas slowly closed his eyes. When he opened them again, all that remained was icy finality.
‘Smack!”
The sharp sound of the slap cut through the dead silence of the banquet hall.
He struck Sophia hard across the face, then let out a bitter, wounded laugh. “Sophia… you really played me. All these years.”
Sophia crumpled to the floor.
n that moment, the elegant white gown she wore and the glittering jewels around her neck felt like the most ironic kind of shackles.
The hall erupted. People didn’t bother lowering their voices anymore.
‘Oh my god. I always thought they were the perfect power couple. But he’s a serial cheater, and she’s a fraud! They’ve been fooling everyone!”
‘Stop trying to clean up your image!” someone shouted toward the stage. “You’re both a mess! Just own it–who do you think you’re fooling now?”
‘You know who the real victim is here? Riley. She carried the title of Mrs. Ashford but was treated like a placeholder. And now he’s shipped her off overseas, probably without a clue what’s going on tonight…”
The wave of criticism grew louder, threatening to drown the stage.
Lucas couldn’t stay any longer. Face dark, he gestured sharply. Several security guards quickly surrounded him and escorted him out through a side exit.
He didn’t look back once at Sophia, still on the floor.
