Riley figured he had a solid point.

Yeah, she wasn’t that same girl anymore. Not the one back in Havenbrook, with no one to lean on, the orphan everyone felt free to mock.
The Harper family might not stack up to the deep–rooted Torres family in sheer scale, but they still had a solid name in Nexopolis. They weren’t some soft targets people could push around whenever they felt like it.
And more than that, she had Sebastian standing right beside her.
While her thoughts were still drifting, Sebastian looked at her and asked, “Want to go out for a bit?”
Riley raised an eyebrow, surprised. “Like what?”
A smile tugged at Sebastian’s lips. His answer was short and simple. “Meet some of my idiot friends.”
The suggestion was definitely quick.
But Riley thought about it. She’d already decided to make this work with him. Blending into his world was just a matter of time. She wasn’t about to hide herself away and live in some bubble with just the two of them forever.
She nodded without hesitating and said, “Okay. Let me shower and change.”
Sebastian watched her walk into the bedroom, his smile deepening.
He picked up his phone, taking his time. He opened a WhatsApp group, dropped an address, and typed one word, “Drinks?”
Three seconds after he hit send, the dead–quiet group chat blew up.
Sebastian watched them lose their minds. He could already picture how obnoxious they’d be in person, and he didn’t want them going feral and scaring Riley. So he added one more slow, casual line.
“Right. There’ll be two of us.”
The message landed, and the group went dead silent for a full five seconds.
Then the bombing started, even harder than before.
“Holy shit.”
“Two? Sebastian, you sure you didn’t screw that message up?”

“No way, no way, no way. Nexopolis‘ most eligible bachelor is finally off the market? Who’s the lucky girl who managed to tie you down?”
An endless flood of “holy shit” and question marks swarmed the screen. The group’s energy just shot through the roof in an instant.
But the guy who lit the fuse just smirked. He flipped his phone face down, set it aside, and had zero intention of answering their questions.

When Riley stepped out of the bedroom, Sebastian took her hand like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Riley had figured someone of Sebastian’s status would hang with his circle at one of those ultra–exclusive private clubs downtown, the kind with insane security.
So it threw her off when Sebastian drove her past all the city lights and out toward a quiet hillside at the edge of town.
Streetlights flickered across his profile as he drove.
He kept one hand on the wheel and caught her glance. He tossed her a casual smile and said, “This spot’s Justin’s family vineyard. Private. Just us and a few close friends. Quiet, and no hundred pairs of eyes watching your every move.”
The car rolled to a smooth stop at the vineyard entrance.
A server was already waiting. He led them through a cellar corridor lined with rare bottles.
Before they even reached the private room at the end, Riley could hear the racket from inside. Even the heavy oak door, built to kill the noise, couldn’t hold in the energy.
“I bet a whole case. Sebastian’s bluffing tonight. You know how he is. Him? Show up with a woman? Hell would freeze over first.”
“I don’t know, man. You saw those texts. That tone had ‘whipped‘ written all over it.”
Sebastian’s brow twitched as he caught the commentary. He squeezed Riley’s hand and murmured in her ear, “If they get too loud, just tell me. I’ll get you out of here.”
