Chapter 401 I’m a Married Man Now
Sebastian sat down across from her, his fingers interlaced. He answered honestly, “Not really. The kitchen at Torres Mansion sent it over. I’ve never liked having other people in my space. The staff only comes by to clean when I’m not here.
“My mom’s convinced I’ll starve to death, so she’s always nagging the kitchen to stock extra prepped meals and fresh sides for me.”
Riley glanced around the living room.
The place was in a prime spot and had a sleek, minimalist look. But that entire wall of monitors, the top–tier gaming pod, and all the high–tech gear screamed one thing: hardcore gamer territory.
“So when they stay out of your way, you just lock yourself in here and game?” Riley stirred her oatmeal, asking casually.
“Not that often.” Sebastian leaned back in his chair, looking relaxed yet exuding his usual quiet authority. “But when I have to make a big call or I’m stuck in a logic loop, dropping into a game world helps me cool my head fast.”
Riley smiled. This guy’s way of making decisions was definitely one of a kind. He brought high–stakes strategy right into everyday life.
She let the topic go and focused on her oatmeal.
The soft oats melted on her tongue with a light, clean sweetness. She looked right at him and said sincerely, “This oatmeal is seriously good. Props to you, Chef Torres.”
Right then, the phone on the coffee table buzzed with a short alert.
Sebastian grabbed it and glanced at the screen. His relaxed brow pulled tight. A flicker of disgust crossed his eyes.
He looked up at Riley, his expression shifting to something harder to read.
Riley caught the look and set her spoon down. She tilted her head, half–joking. “Why are you looking at me like that? Don’t tell me Melissa finally got a clue and decided to add you on WhatsApp to beg me for a truce.”
“It’s not her.” Sebastian turned his phone around so the screen faced Riley. “It’s Elsie.”
Riley leaned in. A new friend request had popped up in his WhatsApp contacts.
The verification message read, “Sebastian, it’s Elsie. I want to help my mom explain what happened with Riley at the hospital. I hope you won’t misunderstand Riley.”
Riley’s eyes flickered with mockery as she read those words.
The assumptions behind it were ridiculous, but Elsie’s determination was clearly way more relentless than Riley had imagined.
“Looks like Elsie really does see you differently.” Riley drew her words out, her tone pointed. “She’s running damage control all the way to your phone now. That’s what I call full–spectrum coverage.”
Sébastian didn’t even hesitate. He hit decline right in front of her.
“This isn’t the first time.” His voice stayed flat, like he was dealing with spam. “Back in Havenbrook, she tried every trick in the book to add me. Same excuses, always using your name. I just didn’t care enough to deal with it back then.
about?”
Besides, you’re right here. If I want to know something about you, why would I go through some random person I don’t even care
Riley clearly hadn’t expected the Havenbrook history. She froze for a second, then let out a soft laugh. A spark of delight lit her eyes. “Then I have to give you credit, Mr. Torres. Your boundaries are flawless.”
Sebastian clearly liked that compliment. The frost in his gaze melted right aff. “Well, I’m a married man now. I should have at least some idea of what a husband’s supposed to do.”
They exchanged a look. The cloud Melissa and Elsie had dumped over them seemed to thin out in that moment.
Riley picked up her oatmeal. A mean little thought crossed her mind.
Melissa and Elsie are scheming their hearts out based on one assumption–they think Sebastian and! are just engaged in nume only, nothing solid. But what they’ll never figure out is that the day after we got back to exopolis, Sebastian and I already got our marriage certificate.
