That move pulled a fresh wave of gasps around the room.

Sebastian didn’t flinch. His fingertips brushed lightly over Riley’s knuckles as his gaze swept across his four useless friends. He sounded perfectly relaxed when he introduced her.
“Open your eyes and pay attention. Let me do this right.”
He turned his head toward Riley.
They’d gotten their marriage certificate fast, and that part wasn’t ready to go public yet.
So he paused a beat and went with safer wording. “This is my girlfriend, Riley Harper. And we’re getting married soon.”
“Holy shit!”
“Married?!”
The room blew up all over again.
If showing up with a girlfriend was a shock, then them being this close to getting married was a bombshell. Everyone looked utterly stunned.
Sebastian ignored the howling. “These guys aren’t exactly killing it in life, but they’re decent. This is Nolan Wallace, Wesley Murphy, Justin Brooks, and Colin Peterson.”
The loud one in the floral shirt who’d charged up earlier was Colin. He clutched his chest, looking wounded. “Not killing it? Sebastian, you land a girl and suddenly you treat your friends like dirt. That’s cold.”
Nolan had stayed quiet in the corner the whole time. Now he wore a smug look, like he’d seen it all coming.
He shot Sebastian a wink, his tone thick with teasing. “So, back in Havenbrook, some guy dragged me out of bed at two in the morning asking how to chase a girl. That was about Ms. Harper, right?”
Riley blinked and turned toward Sebastian beside her.
Sebastian asked how to chase me? Back in Havenbrook?
Colin heard that and immediately started grumbling louder, “Wait. Nolan, you knew the whole

time and didn’t tell anyone? That’s seriously messed up.”
Nolan shrugged and lifted his glass for a sip, completely unapologetic. “I just gave a few pointers. Helped our clueless romantic here with the basics. Plus, you know how private Sebastian gets. You think he’d actually spill the details to me? I was only guessing. I had no clue he’d move this fast and already lock down a wedding date.”
Sebastian rubbed his temple. “You’re all way too loud.”
Wesley was the most polished of the group. He wore wire-rimmed glasses and had a quiet, refined air about him.
He’d caught the flicker of surprise on Riley’s face when the Havenbrook chasing story came up. He stepped in smoothly, his voice calm.
“Ms. Harper, don’t mind them. Sebastian’s never brought a girl around before, ever. These guys are used to running their mouths. They’re a little worked up. If they get out of line, I’ll apologize for them.”
Riley smiled, her eyes bright and easy, “No, I think they’re fun. Seems like they’d be a good time to hang out with.”
Justin, the vineyard’s owner, had barely said a word. He was the quietest and most grounded of the bunch.
He pressed the intercom without any fuss. A few minutes later, the vineyard manager walked in carrying the top-shelf red Sebastian had ordered ahead of time, already decanted.
Riley stayed close to Sebastian and watched the room quietly.
They acted loudly and a little ridiculously, sure. But their clothes, the way they talked, that built-in polish they couldn’t hide. Riley started matching names to families in her head pretty fast.
The Wallace family in venture capital. The Murphy family in pharmaceuticals. The Brooks family in industry. The Peterson family in media.
These guys covered
pretty much every top-tier power circle in Nexopolis high society.
And yet, for all their swagger, around Sebastian they fell in line without even trying. There was real trust there.
Colin still wasn’t done. He leaned in with a goofy grin and asked, “Riley, I’m dying to know. How did Sebastian actually chase you back in Havenbrook? Did he pull that thing he does in business? Slap a contract on the table and tell you to sign and claim your prize?”
