Chapter 404 You’re Friends With Elsie?
Justin’s expression went cold. He shot Colin an icy look. “Do you have a single working brain cell? Why would you bring up my cousin right now?”
The irritation in his voice was impossible to miss. The whole room’s energy shifted into something awkward.
Riley gave her glass a slow swirl. She’d caught that keyword
She lifted her eyes and looked at Justin with open curiosity. A small smile tugged at her lips. “Oh? This cousin of yours is there a story there?”
She asked it straight, but it didn’t come across as rude. It came off as genuine interest.
Colin knew he’d messed up. He smacked his own mouth with an embarrassed wince and muttered, “Me and my big mouth. Riley, don’t take it the wrong way. I’ve just never had much of a filter.”
Nolar jumped in from the side and picked up the thread, saving Colin and feeding Riley’s curiosity at the same time. “It’s not really a secret. Justin’s cousin, Audrey, chased Sebastian for a long time. And I mean full–on. She practically had meals delivered to the top floor of Torres Group every single day.”
He spread his hands, a helpless grin on his face. “End result? After over half a year of chasing, she never even got added on WhatsApp. Audrey went home and cried to Justin forever about it, saying her cousin wouldn’t help her out. Their grandpa dotes on her, so he forced Justin to play matchmaker.”
He glanced at Justin’s stony face and kept going, “Justin’s got a spine, though. He pushed right back and said, ‘Sebastian doesn’t like her. What am I supposed to do about it?‘ That got him one hell of a punishment from their grandpa.”
Riley looked surprised. “What happened after that?” she asked.
“After that,” Nolan said, shifting his gaze toward Sebastian, “Sebastian heard about it and went to see Justin’s grandpa himself.”
Riley’s heart gave a small flutter. She looked at Sebastian beside her.
His expression didn’t change, but his arm around her waist tightened just a little.
Nolan went on, “Sebastian stood in front of every elder in the Brooks family and spelled it out for them. He said he would never, under any circumstances, accept Audrey. And more importantly, he told them straight up that he already had someone he liked. He told the Brooks family to stop wasting their time. That finally put an end to it.”
Nolan finished and seemed to remember something. He looked at Justin. “Audrey doesn’t know we’re hanging out here tonight, does she? She’s not gonna show up and cause a scene.”
Justin snorted, unimpressed, “You think I’m like Colin? You think I can’t keep my mouth shut?”
Colin caught another stray bullet for no reason. He rolled his eyes and lifted his glass, sulking. “Fine, fine. Blame me. I hope tonigh goes smoothly. But you know what they say. Speak of the devil.”
As if the universe wanted to prove his big mouth right, the heavy oak door flew open before he’d even finished talking.
Every head turned toward the entrance.
A young woman stood there in a sharp little black dress, full makeup, her brow furrowed. She had that spoiled, entitled tone when

she spoke, “Justin, I had to ask the manager to find out you were all here. is Sebastian
She didn’t finish. Her eyes had already cut through the crowd and locked onto Sebastian in the center seat. And right next to him, tucked against his side in a way that screamed intimate, was Riley.
The girl’s voice died in her throat. Her face went stiff.
It was Audrey Brooks.
Audrey gripped her purse and walked toward them step by step, her eyes glued to Riley.
“Sebastian.” Her voice shook. “Who is she?”
Sebastian pulled Riley even closer. “Audrey, meet my girlfriend, Riley Harper.”
“Riley Harper…” Audrey chewed on the name like she was searching her memory for it.
She looked Riley over from head to toe.
