Chapter 410 You’re Setting Me up Again?
Audrey actually meant every word.
Riley saw how thoroughly defeated she looked and finally let herself relax.
“Wait here.”

She tossed those words over her shoulder and headed upstairs. When she came back down, she’d washed up and changed into lounge clothes.
She sat down at the dining table without any ceremony, grabbed a small fork, and started in on Audrey’s apology cakes.
The cake melted on her tongue–sweet without being too much. Definitely lived up to the hype.
Audrey relaxed when she saw her eating. She sat beside Riley, hands folded on her knees like she was waiting to be sentenced.
Riley ate with focus, but she kept an eye on Audrey the whole time.
She caught Audrey opening her mouth a few times like she wanted to say something, then swallowing it back down. The way she kept starting and stopping was even more painful than losing fifteen straight matches last night.
Finally, after Riley polished off her second slice of tiramisu, she set down her fork and wiped the corner of her mouth with a napkin. She looked at Audrey, perfectly composed. “Okay. Spit it out. There’s something else, isn’t there?”
Audrey deflated like a popped balloon the second Riley called her out.
She chewed her bottom lip and looked at Riley with bright, pleading eyes.
“So, Riley. I swear, I am not challenging you again.” She held up three fingers like she was taking an oath, then pivoted hard. “But you ate my cakes. So could you maybe help me win a tournament?”
Riley nearly spat out her water. She stared at Audrey in disbelief. “You’re setting me up again?”
“It’s not a setup! I swear!” Audrey rushed to explain, words tumbling out fast. “The Cyber Nest over in East Nexopolis. You’ve heard of it, right? Back when Sebastian was still in Nexopolis, he used to go there all the time. So after he left for Havenbrook, I secretly signed up for a membership too.”

Riley listened without interrupting.

“Now they’re doing a retro solo–game tournament. Whoever wins the whole thing gets a limited–edition game cartridge.” Audrey’s eyes lit up with genuine excitement. “It’s a first- edition collector’s item. Sebastian spent forever trying to track one down and never found it. I overheard Justin mention it once. And Sebastian’s birthday is coming up, so I figured if I could win it and give it to him as a gift, he’d be really happy about it.”
Riley’s expression didn’t shift at all as she listened to Audrey’s roundabout scheme.
“If this gift means that much to you,” Riley lifted her eyes and met Audrey’s hopeful gaze, calm and level, “then wouldn’t it mean more if you won it yourself?”
Audrey looked completely thrown by how chill she was.
Her eyes went wide, and she leaned forward without thinking. Her voice was packed with disbelief. “Riley! You’re not even a little mad? Sebastian’s birthday is coming up, and I want to win something he’s been hunting for forever so I can give it to him. You’re his girlfriend. You seriously don’t care? What kind of reaction is that?”
In Audrey’s head, Riley should’ve been furious, or at the very least throwing out some cold, cutting remarks and demanding to know what she was really after.
But Riley was as calm as if she were checking the weather.
She just let out a soft laugh at the question.
“Why would I be mad?” She shot the question right back, then laid it out at her own pace. “Ms. Brooks, Sebastian’s stance on you was locked in the moment you tried everything and still couldn’t get his WhatsApp contact. He’s not interested. That’s a closed case. A game cartridge isn’t going to change any of that, and I’m not about to get jealous over nothing.”
She paused and took in Audrey’s stunned expression, then shifted gears. “Besides, as far as I see it, genuinely liking someone isn’t a mark of shame. Doesn’t matter if it works out or not. It’s not something to be embarrassed about. You put in real effort for him, and you’re closing this chapter on your own terms. That’s brave.”
