Sebastian was propped against the headboard in a soft silk robe, the neckline falling open enough to show the sharp lines of his collarbone. He had a financial journal in his hands, but Riley could tell he hadn’t turned a single page since she’d walked in.
He set the journal aside the moment he saw her. Those eyes that were usually razor–sharp in the boardroom now held nothing but a wounded, brooding look.
“You stayed up until three in the morning playing games with someone who doesn’t even matter. You left me alone in our bedroom.” His voice dropped low, full of accusation. “Mrs. Torres, I think the day we got our marriage certificate had more action than this.”
Riley rolled her eyes and walked over. She tossed her phone onto the nightstand.
“Mr. Torres, maybe you should take a good look at who racked up this old debt in the first place.” She crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow at him. “If your charm wasn’t so out of control, would I be up half the night playing therapist to your former admirer and serving as her personal emotional dumpster?”
Sebastian had no comeback for that. He let out a quiet, helpless laugh.
He reached for her and pulled her down onto the edge of the bed, wrapping his arms around her.
“My fault,” he admitted without hesitation. He rested his chin on top of her head. “I’ll talk to Justin tomorrow. Tell him to keep an eye on his cousin so she stops bothering you.”
“I don’t think it’ll be a regular thing.” Riley let out a huge yawn, tears prickling at the corners of her eyes.
A full night of high–intensity gaming plus a one–sided therapy session had completely drained her.
She slipped out of Sebastian’s arms, grabbed her pajamas from the closet, and headed for the bathroom. “Sounds like she’s gonna turn all that firepower on Colin from here on out.”
Riley slept like a rock.
When she finally blinked awake, the sun was already high. The spot next to her was empty.
A note sat on the nightstand in Sebastian’s sharp, slashing handwriting. “Early meeting at the office. I’ll be back by eleven to take you out for lunch.”

Riley looked at the note, and a small smile tugged at the corner of her lips without her even noticing.
She rolled over and buried her face in the soft pillow, lazing around a little longer. She let out a groggy “mm–hmm,” as if answering the man who’d already been gone for hours.
She was just settling into round two of sleep when the doorbell rang downstairs.
Riley frowned.
What time even is it? Did Sebastian come back already? Did he forget something?
She dragged herself to the door with her hair a complete mess, still half asleep. She checked the peephole and almost convinced herself she was still dreaming.
Audrey was standing outside.
She wore a casual tracksuit with a baseball cap pulled down low and sunglasses covering half her face. She looked like she was terrified of being recognized. In her hands were two big paper bags with a famous bakery logo, and she stood there fidgeting like a burglar casing the place.
Riley took a deep breath and felt half of what little energy she’d recovered just evaporate. She opened the door and stared at her, dead inside. “What are you doing here?”
Audrey took in Riley’s just–rolled–out–of–bed look and froze for a second. Then she shot a quick glance past Riley into the house like she was confirming something. She dropped her voice low. “I made sure I saw Sebastian’s car leave before I came anywhere near this place!”
She shoved the two heavy bags forward, her tone awkward and stiff. “So, about last night. Sorry for keeping you up so late. I brought you these. As an apology.”
Riley stepped aside to let her in and took the bags, which had some real weight to them. She set them on the entryway cabinet.
“Come in.”
Audrey swapped her shoes and followed Riley into the living room.
She looked around the place with open curiosity. The decor was understated but expensive. with a warm, lived–in feel everywhere. Whoever designed it clearly had taste.
Riley ignored her. She walked straight to the kitchen, poured herself a glass of warm water,
