The True Heiress Reborn And Slays (Alicia Delaney) novel Chapter 420

Chapter 420 Not Yet

Colin’s eyes flicked toward Audrey on instinct. She still had her head down, lost in whatever was going on inside her head. It bugged him, and he didn’t know why

He turned back to the girl and dialed up a crooked grin, laying the charm on thick. “Yeah. What’s up?”

The girl’s eyes lit up even more. “Could I get your WhatsApp I’m with the student paper. You’re amazing at football and really good-looking. I’ve been stuck trying to find someone for our alumni spotlight column, and you’d be perfect!”

Colin didn’t hesitate. He pulled out his phone. “Sure.”

They swapped contacts right there.

Audrey looked up and locked her eyes on the scene. Colin, chatting away with some college girl, completely at ease. Something pressed down on her chest like a block of cement.

How can he just stand there and flirt with some random girl? After what I just found out?

A surge of pure, irrational anger shot through her.

“Let’s go already! I’m starving!”

Audrey spun on her heel and marched toward the campus gate without waiting for anyone.

Colin stood there, completely baffled, watching her storm off. His face was a giant question mark. “What’s with her? She looks pissed. Is she seriously that hungry?”

Riley had watched the whole thing unfold. Colin’s totally clueless/expression next to Audrey’s bristling exit almost made her laugh out loud.

She said, with just a hint of something pointed, “Maybe the coffee was a little sour.”

Colin’s brow furrowed deeper. He thought back, dead serious, and argued, “No way. I tasted it. It was pretty sweet.”

That evening, back at home, the chaos of the day still lingered-with Colin drenched in sweat on the field and Audrey’s face shifting from shock to something closer to rage. It had made the whole day feel twice as long

Riley changed into her lounge clothes and was about to grab a glass of water when her phone rang.

She picked it up. The screen read “Dad.”

She walked out onto the balcony, slid the glass door shut behind her, and hit answer.

“Hey, Dad.”

“Hey, Riley.” Zavier’s voice sounded tired on the other end, careful and testing. I’m not interrupting anything am

“No. Just get home? Riley leaned against the railing and looked out at the city lights

“Oh, good.” He let out a small breath of relief and went quiet for a few seconds before getting to the point “so, do you have time to come home tomorrow?”

Riley’s chest tightened a little.

The word “home” always came with a weight she couldn’t shake.

As if he could sense her hesitation, Zavter jumped in fast. “Don’t worry! Your mom’s still in the hospital. She won’t be there. It’ll be me and your brother tomorrow.”

His voice had that pleading edge, and Riley couldn’t bring herself to say no.

“Okay.” She kept her voice gentle. “I’ll come by in the morning.”

“Yes! Good!” Zavier’s tone lifted instantly. He asked a few more rambling questions about how she’d been and finally hung up, satisfied.

Riley tucked her phone away and stayed on the balcony a little longer. The night breeze swept away some of the heaviness in her

chest.

She turned and walked back inside. Sebastian wasn’t in the living room.

The study was dark. The bedroom was empty.

She wandered through the house and finally found the game room door left slightly ajar. Warm yellow light bled through the crack.

She leaned in and saw Sebastian sitting in front of the vintage console. He was completely still, holding the cartridge in his hands and staring at it.
