Chapter 447 Zavier Backs Riley
The only person left who could save Logan now was Noah.

He shot Noah a desperate, pleading look. He prayed that Noah, who had always given him leeway, would offer him a lifeline at the very last moment.
Noah caught the look and mentally cursed Logan into the ground all over again. He could not simply sit by and let Riley bulldoze Logan into the dirt.
“Riley, let’s not be too hasty.” Noah forced another smile onto his face. “Logan has his flaws, sure, but he’s been here a long time. He knows the company inside and out. And the Wharfbrook project–he’s been on it for a while. He did a lot of the early groundwork. Pulling him off now could throw the whole thing off track.”
His direct appeal had fallen through, so he resorted to stalling tactics. His mind raced ahead as he plotted his next move.
He would keep Logan on staff until the project wrapped up. By then, Riley’s anger would have faded. They could reassign him to a remote corner of another department or stick him in a meaningless role. Anything was preferable to being fired on the spot.
“At least let him see this project through.”
Noah figured this pitch was reasonable enough, and it gave Riley an easy off–ramp if she wanted it.
But he’d totally misread her. She wasn’t buying it at all.
“No need,” Riley said, her voice flat. “I’ll handle the Wharfbrook project myself.”
Noah’s face dropped.
She wouldn’t budge an inch. She was taking charge of the project herself. That meant she wrote off all Logan’s prior work and trusted herself to run it perfectly.
Logan looked like he’d been struck by lightning, rooted to the spot, his lips trembling.
“I’ve already contacted the project lead on their side to renegotiate,” Riley went on. “If nothing comes up, I’ll be heading over this afternoon.”
Her speed was staggering. While Logan was still nursing his outrage, spinning fantasies about calling in favors to reverse his firing, Riley had already moved on. She’d seized control of the Wharfbrook project and locked in a meeting before lunch. The pace left him reeling.

Chapter 447 Zavier Backs Riley
And that was what truly terrified him. If Riley stepped in directly, every dirty trick he’d pulled on the Whartbrook deal would be dragged into the light.
“Mr. Harper, you know me!” Logan spun toward Zavier, his last hope. “I’ve given this company everything for years! I’ve poured my heart and soul into making it stronger! I’ve been killing myself over this Wharfbrook project, all for the company’s benefit! I never had a selfish thought in my life!”
Zavier watched the performance in silence.
After a long pause, he let out a mild cough.
“Logan.” His voice was unhurried, almost gentle, like a mentor offering guidance. “If you truly have the company’s best interests at heart, then you understand how vital it is for a department to run smoothly and keep moving forward.”
A spark of hope flared in Logan’s chest. Maybe Zavier was about to give him a chance. He bobbed his head frantically. “Yes! Exactly! That’s what I’ve been saying! Marketing right now-
“So,” Zavier’s tone changed, his gaze turning sharp. “You need to realize that you are currently the main thing holding this department back.”
Logan felt the words hit him like a physical blow.
He’d never imagined Zavier would not only refuse to defend him, but would grind what was left of him into dust.
Zavier studied Logan’s stunned face. A flicker of distaste crossed his features, there and gone, replaced almost instantly by that same bland, pleasant smile.
“And let’s be honest. You’re not walking away empty–handed. You resigned voluntarily, and yet the company made an exception and gave every one of you an extra month’s pay. That’s more than generous. A man should know when to be grateful. Greed doesn’t look good on anyone.”
Logan’s mouth hung open. He couldn’t snap it shut for a long moment.
It was only then that he grasped how profoundly stupid he’d been to bring his complaints to Zavier’s doorstep.
