“We just have to be there for her. Everything’s going to work out.”

Colton nodded.

When the processing period finally ended, Felicia waited for Max to call. Nothing came. She tried calling him too, but his phone wouldn’t connect. He must really be away on a work trip, just like he’d said.

She sent him a message, hoping for even a quick reply. Still nothing.

All she could do was wait for him to come back. She had no idea how long he’d be gone.

Her only way to check on their daughter now was through Luke, so she called him.

Luke sounded tired, his company just as busy as ever after the holidays. “I’ll check on her tonight and let you know how she’s doing.”

“Thanks, Luke.”

That evening, Luke called back. “Max left for his trip, and he took Anne with him.”

Felicia stared at her phone, stunned. “He took the baby on a business trip?”

“Yeah. Anne cries a lot when her dad isn’t around. Tatiana and Brandon can’t calm her down, no matter what. She just wants her dad, so Max brought her along. I’m not sure when they’ll be back.”

Felicia never imagined Max would spoil their daughter like this, or care for her so much. She felt a strange mix of emotions she couldn’t even name.

“I just hope Anne’s safe,” she said quietly.

“Don’t worry about her. She’s the star of the Hawthorne family now. Everyone’s looking after her. She’ll be fine.”

Felicia murmured her thanks, and after a little more small talk, they hung up.

March in the Capital was still freezing. Ava started helping Felicia pack for her trip overseas. Jeremy had checked all the details—her visa was ready, her place to stay was sorted, and her flight was set for the tenth at one in the afternoon.

Jeremy, Savannah, and Anthony met up downstairs. When Jeremy showed up, Anthony grinned and leaned in to gossip. “Guess what, I heard Andrea’s threatening to break up with Max.”

Savannah shot him a look. “Why do you care so much? Don’t tell me you’ve got a thing for her.”

Anthony laughed. “Please. My taste is way better than Jeremy’s.”

Savannah smirked. “You wish. Your taste doesn’t even come close.”

Anthony opened his mouth to fire back.

“Jeremy!” Luke called out as he walked over.

Everyone turned. Luke gave a quick wave. “Hey, Anthony. Savannah.”

After saying hi, they all headed inside together.
