"That is a relief..." Felicia started, but before she could finish, Max cut in.

"Then we will not keep you from visiting your patient, Mr. Milman. We will be going now."

Jeremy cast a sideways glance at Max, then looked back at Felicia. "Go home. Take care on the road."

Felicia nodded, and Max pulled her directly toward the lobby doors. The car had already been brought to the front. They got in, and the vehicle slowly pulled away from the hospital.

The interior of the car was dead silent, the atmosphere thick and depressing. Max kept his face taut, turning his head to stare out the window.

Felicia watched him for a moment. "What are you thinking about?"

"Nothing," Max replied, though his face clearly broadcasted his foul mood.

"Nothing? Then why the long face?" she pressed.

He suddenly fell silent, then turned to her. "You certainly had plenty to say to him."

Felicia swore that there was absolutely no man on earth more narrow-minded than him. "How exactly did I have plenty to say? We exchanged maybe three sentences."

"If I had not stopped you, you looked ready to keep chatting with him all day," Max retorted.

Felicia kept her voice remarkably calm. "Is Jeremy my enemy? Should I have just spun around and walked away without a single word the moment I saw him?"

Max shifted his gaze forward, refusing to answer.

After a long moment of silence, Felicia let out a soft sigh and slowly reached out to wrap her hand around his wrist. Max's arm stiffened, and he turned to look at the woman beside him.

"If you stay this angry all the time, you are going to age terribly," Felicia said.

Max was speechless. "And here I thought you were going to say something nice to me."
