The seminar wrapped up right at twelve thirty.

It was Felicia’s first time running an event this big, and she completely nailed it. Her professionalism and calm under pressure left everyone impressed. Frank even went out of his way to compliment her.

Felicia accepted his praise with a humble smile, gracious as always.

Just then, Frank spotted Max walking over. He went to greet him, with Felicia by his side.

Max glanced at Felicia. “Evelynn did an outstanding job.”

“Thank you, Mr. Hawthorne. That’s very generous of you,” Felicia replied.

Frank chuckled, “Evelynn just got back to the country recently, so I’m sure you two will be working together more down the line. I hope you’ll get along welle.”

Max gave a small, polite smile. “Of course.”

A staff member arrived to lead Max to the restaurant, and the other guests were shown to their seats. Felicia joined the staff for lunch.

During the meal, Felicia’s phone buzzed. She stepped out to take the call and caught sight of a familiar figure in the hallway. The man who usually seemed so distant and intimidating suddenly looked softer, his whole demeanor changed.

Felicia looked a little closer and noticed a small girl on his phone screen. The child’s sweet, lively voice floated over, and Felicia felt her heart skip.

Max was on a video call with Anne.

Anne had just finished lunch and was sprawled on the sofa. “Daddy, there’s a pretty lady behind you,” she said.

Max turned to look. At that moment, Felicia had already collected herself. Their eyes met, and she gave him a polite smile before lifting her phone and hurrying away.

Max looked indifferent, his voice low. “Just curious.”

Then he turned, slid one hand into his pocket, and walked away toward the dining room.

Felicia stayed where she was until he’d disappeared down the hall. Only then did she move.

After lunch there was a press interview, and then another round of internal meetings that lasted all afternoon. It wasn’t until seven that everything finally wrapped up.

Guests started heading out to their cars.

After Max got in his car, he answered a call from Isaac.

“Mr. Hawthorne, the custom music box was ordered by Felicia.”
