Monday.

Felicia’s phone rang. It was Cameron, calling with an update. “The court’s processing the case now,” Cameron said.

“Has Max responded at all?” Felicia asked.

“Not yet.”

Felicia sighed. “Alright. Keep me posted if anything changes.”

“Of course.”

She ended the call and rubbed her forehead, feeling a headache coming on. What was Max even thinking? She couldn’t figure him out.

Someone knocked on her office door.

“Come in.”

Her assistant peeked in, looking respectful. “The meeting’s about to start.”

Felicia nodded. She’d been working at the Roen Capital office these past few days, handling a pile of new responsibilities. Mondays meant high-level meetings, and today was no exception.

Meanwhile, over at BlueMarble Investments, Isaac stepped into Max’s office with a file in hand. “Felicia’s lawyer sent the paperwork to the court. They’ll set a hearing within thirty days,” he reported.

“She came back at the end of last month, but her other personal details are locked down. We haven’t found anything new.”

Five years. Felicia had definitely grown bolder. Her reputation was up for debate, but her skills were obvious. Now she was going up against Mr. Hawthorne. She must think nothing could stop her.

Felicia’s morning was packed with meetings. When she finally got a break, she headed to Jeremy’s office to go over a new project at Autumnridge.

Her role as Investment Director had raised plenty of eyebrows. Sure, her resume was impressive. She was young, she was beautiful, and even though she’d sealed the American deal for Roen Capital, people here still doubted her. Jeremy tried to support her, but he couldn’t shield her from everything. She had to prove herself.

This project was her shot to do just that. BlueMarble Investments was chasing it too, and their team was led by the second-in-command from their investment department—a real heavyweight.

Felicia and Jeremy had already hashed out most of the details. She felt confident.

“Alright,” Felicia said. “I’ll head out to Autumnridge on Friday.”
