Felicia looked Darin right in the eyes. “Since that’s the case, I’ll just say it outright.”
Darin nodded, his voice calm and genuine. “Go ahead.”
“There was a post about me on the financial forums today. Slander, basically. You’re busy, Mr. Foxhall, so I doubt you’ve seen it. But I saved it for you.” She handed him her tablet.
Darin took the tablet and scrolled through the post. His face went dark as he read. He honestly hadn’t heard about any of this.
Felicia continued, “The post was anonymous, but I already traced it. It was Davis, the PR manager at Riverline Properties.”
Darin frowned and looked up, his expression tightening.
“I don’t even know Davis. We don’t run in the same circles; we’ve never even interacted. I can’t think of a single reason he’d go out of his way to attack me like this.”
She paused, then added, “And as for the matter with Mr. Hawthorne’s daughter, hardly anyone knows about that. Miss Curtis is one of the few who does.”
“This has done a lot of damage to my reputation.”
She didn’t spell it out, but the meaning hung between them.
Darin set the tablet aside, his jaw tense as he fell silent for a few seconds.
“I need to make a call,” he finally said.
He stepped over to the window, phone in hand, and dialed. The call connected quickly. Felicia listened as he asked someone to get in touch with Davis and bring him over right away. He wasn’t about to take her word for it, not when it involved the sister he cared about.
When Darin hung up, he came back to Felicia. “Evelynn, you probably haven’t had dinner yet. Do you want to have dinner here? We’ll get this sorted out when he arrives.”
Darin passed the tablet to Davis. His voice was low and carried the weight of someone used to being in charge. “Take a look.”
Davis’s heart was pounding. He took the tablet with both hands, and even though he’d kind of expected this, seeing it right in front of Darin made him break out in a cold sweat.
He tried to play it cool, forcing himself to sound confused. “Mr. Foxhall, what’s this about?”
Darin fixed him with a cold, piercing stare. Davis felt like he couldn’t breathe.
“Evelynn says you’re the one who posted it.”
Davis turned to Felicia, denying it flatly. “Miss, I don’t even know you. Why would you accuse me of something like this?”
