Everything happened in a blur. Andrea barely realized what was happening before Felicia’s hand connected with her cheek.

The space was so tight that Felicia couldn’t even swing properly, but the shock was enough. The driver reacted first, quickly stepping between them. “Miss, what are you doing?”

He kept his tone careful. After all, Anne really liked Evelynn. He couldn’t risk getting on her bad side.

Felicia stared Andrea down, her eyes cold. “That slap is nothing compared to what you did to me.”

She turned to leave.

“Evelynn!” Andrea’s voice was sharp and furious.

No one had ever dared to hit her before. Never!

Felicia paused, glancing back. Andrea had already jumped out of the car, eyes blazing with hatred, like she wanted to tear Felicia apart right there.

“You hit me? Just wait. You won’t last a week in the Capital.”

Felicia let out a soft, mocking laugh, not even bothering to answer. She turned away, went straight to Jeremy, and said, “Let’s go.”

Jeremy nodded and followed her toward the hospital.

Andrea stared after them, her jaw clenched in rage. Suddenly, she spun around and slapped the driver across the face. “You are so useless!”

The driver ducked his head. “I’m sorry, Miss Curtis. I’m sorry.”

Felicia was climbing the steps when a wave of dizziness washed over her. She swayed, grabbing for the railing.

Jeremy caught her arm, steadying her. “Are you alright? Is your head hurting?”

She waited for the spinning to pass. “I’m okay. Just a little dizzy.”

“Do you want to keep going?”

Felicia nodded. “Yeah, I’m fine.”

Darin let out a long sigh. There was a heavy pause before he asked, “So, what do you suggest we do about this?”

“If you’re hoping for Evelynn to apologize, that’s not going to happen,” Jeremy replied.

Silence stretched between them. Finally, Darin spoke again. “You really care about her, don’t you?”

Jeremy’s answer was calm, but firm. “She’s new here, and she’s one of ours now. Of course I have to look out for her.”

Darin was quiet for another moment, then said, “Alright. I understand.”

Jeremy hung up. Almost immediately, his phone rang again. This time it was Grady from the office.

A few minutes later, he walked back into the hospital room.

“There’s something at the office I need to deal with,” he told Felicia. “Normally it’d be your responsibility, but you need to rest. I already told Grady to call me directly for anything work-related. You just focus on getting better.”
