Felicia jolted awake, heart pounding, still tangled in the remnants of her dream. Her head felt foggy, and her eyes were so puffy they almost hurt. She dabbed on some cream to help with the swelling, then put on makeup, trying to look fresh. The last thing she wanted was her family worrying about her.

She grabbed her phone and called Luke, hoping for an update on Anne. That’s when she finally learned what had happened. Anne had fallen ill at Autumnridge and gone home to recover. Just a couple of days ago, now feeling better, she’d gone with Miranda to a summer villa out of town. Felicia guessed she must have caught something at the hospital.

Max sending Anne away to the villa made everything clear. He was keeping them apart. That was just like him, always knowing exactly how to break someone down. He never had to touch you to hurt you. He could make you suffer in ways that left no marks but cut deep.

“Okay,” Felicia murmured, the words barely leaving her lips.

She sat in her room for a bit, pulling herself together before heading downstairs. By ten, she was at the office, trying to focus on work.

The moment she arrived, Savannah hurried over, eyes lighting up as she spotted Felicia’s new bangs. “Wow, those bangs make you look ten years younger. Seriously, you could pass for a college student.”

Felicia smiled, shaking her head. “You’re way too flattering.”

Savannah grinned and, without missing a beat, started talking about Jett. Now everyone at the company knew he was from BlueMarble Investments. Since Felicia had landed the Westfield Clinical Research deal, all the gossip about her had disappeared. The negative rumors had mostly been Jett’s doing anyway, spread quietly behind the scenes.

Savannah was still furious about it, muttering curses under her breath. Felicia waited for her to finish venting before gently interrupting. “Let it go. He’s finished now. Jeremy already blacklisted him everywhere.”

Savannah switched gears, complaining about a sudden problem with a project in Northwick. Jeremy was there now, trying to handle it. “Max is definitely behind this. That guy is the worst.”

Felicia’s brows knit together. She remembered slapping Andrea a few days ago. Max always meant what he said. And since the issue was in Northwick, there was a good chance Darin was tangled up in it too.

Once Savannah left, Felicia called Jeremy. He picked up almost immediately.

No sooner had she set her phone down than Anthony’s secretary called, asking her to stop by his office. At a recent summit, the financial bureau had set up a state-backed overseas investment project, with BlueMarble Investments and Roen Capital working together. Today, she was supposed to meet with BlueMarble’s team. Anthony wanted her to lead the meeting, but he asked if she was up for it.

Felicia agreed without hesitation. There was no reason to avoid working with BlueMarble Investments.

“Sounds good,” she said.

By two in the afternoon, Felicia found herself in the president’s office at BlueMarble Investments. Isaac came in, holding a report.

“Sir, the results are ready.”

Max reached out, took the envelope, and slid out the paternity test results.
