Gavin couldn’t take his eyes off Felicia. There was no hiding the way he felt about her. “Evelynn was the first woman who ever turned me down,” he admitted, his voice soft but definite. “I really like her. I haven’t been able to forget her, not for a second. That’s why I came here, honestly. I just wanted to see her again.”
Max followed Gavin’s gaze, his own eyes impossibly dark as they landed on Felicia. “You’ve got plenty of girls around you who are prettier than her. Are you this hung up just because she rejected you? Is it all about the thrill of the chase?”
Gavin flicked his eyes back to Max and let out a quiet laugh. “It’s not just about looks. There’s something really special about her. She just draws me in. Don’t you feel it? She’s different.”
Max gave a small, almost bored smile. “Honestly, I don’t see anything that sets her apart from the rest.”
Gavin shrugged, still smiling. “That’s probably because you already have a girlfriend. Miss Curtis is gorgeous too.”
Just then, Andrea finished chatting with someone and made her way over. “Max, let’s go dance,” she said, her voice bright.
Max handed his drink to a passing server and nodded at Gavin. “Excuse us.”
Andrea slipped her arm through Max’s, and the two of them headed for the dance floor.
Gavin stood there for another moment, watching Felicia as she moved across the room. He couldn’t help it. Eventually, he turned and walked out, deciding he needed some fresh air to clear his head.
Max led Andrea onto the dance floor, his hand steady on her waist as they moved to the music.
Felicia spun around just in time to catch a glimpse of the two of them together. Her eyes met Max’s for a heartbeat, and for a second, the world seemed to go quiet.
She wanted to ignore them, pretend they didn’t exist, but just seeing the two of them together made her want to puke.
Jeremy picked up on her discomfort. “Want to get out of here?” he asked gently.
Felicia looked up at him, then shook her head, her eyes dropping. “No. I’m good.”
She knew she’d have to run into Max eventually. There was no avoiding it. She might as well get used to it.
Jeremy gave her a reassuring smile. “Just relax, okay?”
Andrea’s lips curled into a smirk. “Do you want money or something?”
Felicia narrowed her eyes, her patience wearing thin.
Jeremy’s voice came out firm and low. “Miss Curtis, I’d suggest you try not to act like you have no manners.”
Andrea glared at him, her face hardening. “Whether I have manners or not depends on who I’m dealing with. She doesn’t deserve it.” She sneered, looking Felicia up and down. “I always thought you had better taste, Jeremy. Guess I was wrong. Seems like you’re only good enough for a woman who doesn’t even belong here.”
Felicia’s hands curled into fists.
She was just about to strike back when a man’s voice cut through the air, sharp and commanding. “Try it and see what happens.”
In the next instant, Felicia lunged forward, grabbing a fistful of Andrea’s hair.
Andrea shrieked.

Is this coming to an end...
Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
The writer did a big one with Jeremy's speech to Max. He said almost everything that needed to be said. I have wanted Felicia or someone who knows the past to just tell that whole stinking family what they did and how disgusting they are and what they're doing now how unfair it all is to Felicia. A pity it was only Max but he really needed to hear this (plus more)....
I love the chase of this novel, how you’ve build each of the characters. They almost seem like real. I feel like I know them irl. But however I would like to know what’s max’s pov and what’s going on in his head. I truly believe max’s just a grey character. And also please please please update more!!!...
I was really hoping that Max and Felicia would end up together, but why did Max do that to Felicia? 😭 Is that his way of making Felicia overcome the trauma Holden caused her? I don't think that's helping at all. I just hope Max's character has some redeeming qualities in the coming chapters....
