Felicia set her phone aside, her face turning serious.
A knock came at the door.
She took a second to collect herself, then went to open it. Standing outside was Jeremy. “Good morning.”
Jeremy gave her an easy smile. “You look a lot better today.”
Felicia nodded. “After sleeping for a whole day and night, I’d hope so.”
“Let’s get some breakfast.”
They headed down to the restaurant on the first floor.
“Evelynn, Jeremy.”
Gavin strolled over to their table.
Felicia smiled and greeted him.
“Mind if I join you for breakfast?” Gavin asked.
Felicia arched an eyebrow, teasing, “If I said yes, would you actually leave?”
Gavin set down his tray, pulled out a chair, and grinned. “Don’t be so harsh, Evelynn. My feelings are delicate, you know.”
Felicia shot him a playful look. “You, getting your feelings hurt by a girl? That’ll be the day.”
Gavin laughed. “You don’t have to stereotype me. I’m working hard on being a decent guy.”
Felicia lifted her glass of juice, her lips twitching into a smile. “Well then, good luck with that.”
Gavin clinked his glass against hers. “That’s the best encouragement I could ask for.”
They both laughed.
Gavin took a sip of milk, then waved over at Max, who was sitting by the window. Max glanced at him, then looked away, focusing on his meal. Andrea sat across from him, carrying her breakfast to the table.
When Andrea glanced over at Felicia and Jeremy, her eyes were full of barely-concealed hatred.
Felicia didn’t pay them any attention, acting as if they weren’t even there.
“So, Evelynn, what’s on your agenda today?” Gavin asked.
As Felicia and Jeremy finished breakfast and got ready to leave, Andrea suddenly stood up, clearly annoyed.
Max got up too and gently caught her by the wrist, guiding her back into her seat and quietly trying to calm her down.
Felicia barely glanced their way, then turned to say goodbye to Gavin.
Gavin smiled and waved her off.
Felicia and Jeremy left the restaurant.
They took a walk on the deck, letting the sea breeze and the endless blue ocean lift their spirits.
Felicia’s phone rang. It was Luke calling.
They chatted for a few minutes.
“Hey, isn’t the court hearing tomorrow?” Luke asked.
“There’s been a bit of a snag,” Felicia admitted. “I’m waiting for my lawyer to call.”
Luke paused for a moment, but he didn’t sound surprised.
