Max and Darin trailed behind the manager as they headed upstairs.
Felicia and Gavin found their way to a private room. She ordered a few of the restaurant’s best dishes, making sure to stick to lighter flavors since she knew he couldn’t handle spicy food.
“Want something to drink?” she asked.
Gavin grinned. “Of course. It’s a beautiful night, I’ve got great company… how could I not? I’ve got to try something local.”
“Alright,” Felicia replied, signaling for a bottle of liquor.
“We’ll have that right out,” the server said before leaving.
Gavin glanced at her. “Evelynn, when are you planning to divorce Max?”
Felicia gave a soft smile. “The case hasn’t even started yet. I don’t know how long it’ll take.”
Gavin frowned. “From what I know about Max, he’s not exactly Mr. Romance, but he’s not completely not interested in cute girls.”
Felicia pressed her lips together. “He’s alright.”
Gavin looked even more confused.
Not wanting to get into it, Felicia changed the subject. “How long are you staying in the Capital?”
Gavin got the hint and didn’t push further. “I came all this way, so I should stay at least a month. Will you be my tour guide, Evelynn?”
Felicia laughed. “That’s not exactly my area of expertise.”
About ten minutes later, the food started arriving. Felicia pointed out each dish to Gavin and poured him a shot.
“This is pretty strong. Try a little first.”
Gavin took a cautious sip. “Wow, it’s even stronger than I thought. The flavor is really layered. I like it.”
He tasted the food. “This is good. But honestly, nothing beats your cooking, Evelynn. I still miss it all the time since you moved back.”
Back when Felicia was living in the States, Gavin used to show up at her place for home-cooked meals all the time.
Just then, Gavin’s phone started buzzing. He checked the caller ID and glanced at Felicia. “Sorry, I need to take this call.”
She shot him one last icy look and turned to leave.
She barely made it a step before he grabbed her wrist, stopping her in place.
In a flash, he pinned her against the wall.
“Max!”
He leaned in close, his voice low and threatening. “Felicia, remember what I said. Don’t even think about getting pregnant with someone else’s kid.”
“Max, you son of a bitch,” she snapped, her voice shaking with rage.
He just stared at her, eyes cold as ever.
“What do you think you’re doing, Max?” Gavin’s voice cut through the hallway.
Max let go of her.
At that moment, a staff member pushed a cart of dishes past them. Felicia didn’t hesitate. She marched over, grabbed a half-full glass of red wine, and threw it right in Max’s face.
