Max glanced at the box on the coffee table, then looked back at her. “If you don’t want it or don’t like it, just tell Anne yourself. You don’t need me for that.”
Felicia stared at him, her eyes cold. Typical Max, always finding ways to irritate her.
She sat on the sofa and grabbed her phone. “Alright, how much was it? I’ll send you the money now.”
Max said, “Talk to Anne about it tomorrow. If she’s okay with it, then you can pay me.”
Felicia just stared at him, speechless. He was definitely doing this on purpose.
“Max, stop trying to use Anne as an excuse. We’re getting divorced. I don’t want anything from you, not even something you paid for.” She didn’t want to argue with him or ruin her mood, but right now, he was driving her crazy.
Max’s eyes were dark and steady as he looked at her. His face was calm, the hint of a cool smile on his lips. “Then just wait until the divorce is final. You can pay me then.”
Felicia’s brow tightened. She felt like she could barely breathe.
She forced herself to take a deep breath, then leaned back against the couch. “Your lawyer said you’d consider a private settlement. What do you actually want to do?”
Max didn’t look up from his tablet, his profile sharp and distant. “You already turned that down. That window’s closed.”
He sounded completely uninterested in discussing it.
Felicia’s face went cold. “Fine. See you in court. Are you leaving now?”
Max didn’t even look at her. His voice was calm. “I have to take Anne to a checkup first thing in the morning.”
So he was planning to stay.
Felicia frowned. “You can pick her up tomorrow morning.”
Max finally looked up, a sarcastic smile on his lips. “What are you so worried about? I’m not interested in you.”
Felicia looked away and headed to the kitchen for a glass of warm water, then went to wash up, not sparing him a single glance.
By the time she was done and dressed, Anne had woken up.
Anne was always extra clingy in the mornings. Felicia held her close for a while, sharing a quiet moment before getting her dressed.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Max glanced toward the door, put down his phone and the files, and walked over to open it.
When Jeremy saw Max standing there, his brow furrowed and surprise flashed in his eyes.
Max looked at Jeremy without any expression, completely unbothered.
For a few seconds, neither of them said a word. The air felt thick and tense, as if everything had gone totally still.
