Jeremy finally lowered his hand, turned around, and headed back upstairs.

Heather couldn’t help asking, “That was quick. What did you say to her?”

Jeremy walked over and said, “I think Felicia just needs some time to herself tonight.”

Heather let out a sigh. “Seriously, you’re giving up way too easily. Where’s your backbone? This is exactly when Felicia needs someone with her. Why are you backing off now?”

“We’ll talk about it tomorrow morning.”

Heather just shrugged, looking defeated.

Felicia barely slept that night. She got up feeling groggy, went into the kitchen to get some water, and then the doorbell rang.

She set her glass down and went to open the door. Jeremy was standing outside.

“Hi,” she greeted him.

He noticed how tired she looked. “Did you sleep at all last night?”

Felicia nodded slightly. “Not really.”

“Wanna come upstairs for some breakfast?”

“Alright.”

She definitely looked pale today. Felicia put on a bit of makeup, got dressed, and headed up to Jeremy’s place.

As soon as she walked in, Heather called out, “Felicia, come have breakfast! JEremy actually cooked today, which never happens.”

“Good morning,” Yara greeted sweetly.

Felicia smiled, walked over to Yara, and patted her little head before sitting down beside her. She glanced at the table, which was filled with delicious food, and grinned. “Looks like I’m pretty lucky today.”

Jeremy hardly ever cooked since they had a housekeeper, but whenever he did, his food was amazing. Felicia had tasted it before and knew she was in for a good meal.

Jeremy placed bowls of oatmeal in front of everyone. “Make sure you eat plenty today.”

Felicia was starving after barely eating the night before. Sitting at the table with everyone, with Yara chatting beside her, made her forget her worries for a while.

Felicia locked eyes with Max for a second before he looked over at Jeremy.

Anne rushed up to Felicia, and Yara greeted her right away. The two little girls joined hands.

“Evelynn, why isn’t Aunt Heather here today?” Anne asked.

Felicia crouched down to explain, “She had something to take care of, so Uncle Jeremy and I brought Yara to school.”

Anne nodded. “Then can you pick me up after school today, Evelynn?”

Before Felicia could answer, Max spoke up. “Anne, we’re going to Mandy’s house tonight.”

Anne looked at her dad. “Can Evelynn come too?”

Max glanced at Felicia, then told Anne, “Why don’t you ask her yourself?”

Anne grabbed Felicia’s hand, looking up at her with big hopeful eyes. “Evelynn, can you come with Daddy and me tonight? Please?”

“I have to work today, honey,” Felicia said softly. “I can’t go with you and Anne.”
