Felicia could feel his eyes on her. She looked up, meeting his gaze for a second.
Andrea’s voice cut through the tension. “Evelynn, don’t push it. You think you can just hit anyone you want?”
Felicia let out a cold laugh. “And so what if I did? What I want to know is, why would this lady’s kid go around saying Anne doesn’t have a mother? Who’s been talking behind people’s backs?”
Andrea’s face changed. “What are you talking about?”
Felicia caught the flicker of panic in her eyes and knew she’d guessed right. She smirked. “Alright, then let’s bring Mrs. Stanton’s kid in and ask her directly. Who told her that?”
Andrea glared at Felicia, then snuck a nervous glance at the man beside her.
Max hadn’t said a word the whole time, but his face looked colder now. Andrea’s heart clenched. “Max, I’m sure Anne and Jack just had a misunderstanding. Jack wouldn’t say something like that on purpose.”
The principal glanced at Max, trying to figure out the connection between Evelynn and the Hawthorne family. Was she Anne’s mother? The thought startled her. Looking closer, she could see Anne really did look a little like Evelynn.
Everyone in this room was someone the school couldn’t afford to upset. The principal quickly tried to defuse things. “Mr. Hawthorne, Mrs. Stanton, we should have handled this sooner. We didn’t guide the children well, and that’s on us. We’ll look into this and make sure you both get a proper explanation.”
Her official words shifted all the responsibility to the school. Ms. Corbin was still rubbing her cheek from the slap but apologized right away after hearing the principal speak.
Alyza was still fuming inside, but with the principal stepping in and Max watching, she forced herself to stay quiet. She shot Felicia a dark look. This wasn’t over.
After leaving the office, Max headed for the classroom, the principal and Ms. Corbin following behind. Andrea left with Alyza.
Felicia stood in the hallway, watching Max go. She didn’t follow.
Her phone buzzed. It was Heather.
Max showed up a moment later, Anne in his arms.
“Evelynn!” Anne’s eyes were red as she reached out to Felicia.
Felicia stepped forward, scooping Anne up. “It’s okay now. You’re alright.”
Anne buried her face in Felicia’s shoulder.
Max said. “You’re keeping Anne tonight.”
Felicia didn’t say anything else, just turned away with Anne in her arms and headed for the parking lot.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max)
Nothing today...
The story starting to feel dragged out. Nothing much is happening anymore and Felicia and Max are getting kinda boring.. it’s just the same cycle over and over again...
I used to like this story but now it draaaaags :( Now it seems like all characters are problematic and toxic (yes, ALL characters). Wish the author will give some warmth/emotion in this story. 700+ chapters and still no highlight, no exciting part, just pure coldness and expressionlessness lol...
Max and felicia really need to figure things out. Either humble max down and get him to respect his wife. Or let felicia be a free woman. Max is so ignorant and egomaniac...
I've reached chapter 104 with a broken heart huhuuhu. This is so heavy, so sad. I know the chapters onwards will be more lighter. Can't wait for the pay back time....
When will this novel get an end It's dragging so much. Just kill max asap. How much should felicia bare. Give her freedom from that max and anne. Anne is so annoying child. I know she wants to patch up her mother and father. But sometimes it's really boring.please finish the novel soon. Everyday we have to check for the chapter updates. For God sake finish it off. How many more chapters are there . You could have make the novel short and sweet. I wish if it was in theatre we could have finish it soon....
