Felicia really didn’t want to waste her breath on Max, but she just couldn’t let it go. With a quick flick of her thumb, she shot off a single word. [Psycho!] Then she blocked him again. But even after that, the frustration still sat heavy in her chest. She was so mad she almost hurled her phone across the room.

Anne turned around just in time to see Felicia gripping her phone with a stormy look. Felicia noticed her daughter's worried eyes before she could hide her mood.

“Are you upset?” Anne asked, coming over and resting her small hand on Felicia’s knee.

Looking at her sweet little girl, Felicia felt her anger start to fade. She reached out and hugged Anne close. “With a hug from you, I’m not upset anymore.”

Anne wasted no time wrapping her arms around Felicia’s neck and planting a kiss on her cheek. “Anyone who makes you mad is mean. I’ll tell Daddy to sort them out.”

Felicia couldn’t help but laugh a little. Yara wandered over too, wanting her turn for hugs and kisses. Felicia scooped her up and gave her a squeeze. How could anyone stay angry when surrounded by such innocent, loving kids? Just being with them made everything feel lighter.

Meanwhile, Max glanced at his phone, saw her message, and let out a quiet laugh before setting the phone aside.

Wyatt, sitting across from him at the table, raised an eyebrow. “What are you laughing at? You’re kind of creeping me out.”

Max was out for dinner with two top execs from his company, Wyatt, and a couple of government officials. The meal was almost over, and they were just chatting.

Max took a sip of wine, his tone casual. “It’s nothing.”

Right then, Wyatt’s phone started buzzing. Amber was calling. He answered right away, sounding all sweet. “Hey babe.”

Max glanced over, and Wyatt just grinned at him.

“I know, I barely drank. I’ll be home on time. Promise.”

After Wyatt hung up, someone at the table joked, “Wyatt, you and your wife are so close. Makes the rest of us jealous, honestly.”

Wyatt laughed. “Mr. Swanson, you shouldn’t be jealous of me. I heard Mrs. Swanson really respects you, and your son’s a genius. Didn’t he just get into Capital College? You’re living the perfect life here.”

The dinner broke up around nine. People started saying their goodbyes and heading out.

Wyatt lingered for a moment, looking at Max. “Anne’s not home tonight?”

If Anne were home, Max would have left early to be with her and the kids.

Max just made a noise of acknowledgment, not offering anything more.

Wyatt patted his shoulder. “Guess you’re on your own tonight.”

Max brushed Wyatt’s hand away and got straight into his car. Wyatt could only sigh and watch him leave before heading to his own car and driving off.

Later, after both kids were asleep, Felicia went to look for Greg in the study. He was still on the phone, and Felicia could tell right away he was talking to Wesley.
