Andrea’s face went cold the second she heard that. Savannah didn’t bother with her. She turned to Felicia. “Let’s go.”

She slipped her arm through Felicia’s and led her away. Felicia shot Savannah a curious look, noticing the tension in her jaw. “Is there something going on between you two?”

Savannah shook her head. “Nothing really. She just annoys me.”

Andrea stood there, watching them walk off, her eyes narrowing dangerously as Savannah’s words drifted back to her.

They hadn’t made it far when Felicia stopped short. Something had just come to her. “Savannah, could you grab my purse from the room? There’s something I need to give back to her.”

Savannah frowned. “You know her too?”

Felicia shrugged. “Not really.”

Savannah didn’t push it. “Alright, wait here. I’ll be back in a minute.”

“Okay.”

Savannah walked off with purpose. Felicia glanced toward the restroom and waited where she was.

A few minutes later, Andrea emerged. She spotted Felicia and approached, her tone soft. “You’re waiting for me?”

Felicia nodded. “Yes. I have something to return to you, Miss Curtis. Please wait a moment.”

Andrea’s eyes lit up with recognition and she let out a little laugh. “Oh, you mean that pearl? It’s a dud. I was going to toss it anyway. Don’t bother giving it back. I don’t want it.”

Andrea smiled again. “Well, see you.”

Suddenly, a low voice broke through the tension. “Andrea.”

Felicia’s whole body tensed up at the sound. She spun around to see Max striding toward them.

“Max…” Andrea’s voice trembled as she stumbled into his arms. Max reached her in a few long steps, steadying her as she collapsed against his chest. He slid one hand around her back, the other gently cupping her reddened cheek. His eyes went icy, dangerous.

Felicia felt sweat trickle down her spine.

Max’s gaze landed on Felicia and Savannah, sharp as a knife. He turned to Andrea. “Who did this?”

Before Andrea could answer, Savannah stepped forward, meeting his cold stare head-on. “I did.” Her voice was steady. “What now, Mr. Hawthorne? Are you going to hit me back for her?”

Max’s gaze didn’t waver. His voice was low, almost calm, but there was a threat in it. “So, you already know what this is going to cost you?”
