After the call, Felicia and Anne spent the night at Heather’s place. The next day was Trenton’s eightieth birthday. Felicia had already given him her gift a few days earlier, back when she visited the Milman family.

Jeremy managed to make it home that afternoon. Felicia noticed right away how tired he looked, like he hadn’t slept in days. Anthony put a hand on his shoulder. “You made it back.”

Jeremy nodded. “You two have been busy too.”

Anthony grinned. “We’ve had it easy. You’re the one running yourself ragged.”

Felicia walked up. “Hi Jeremy.”

He looked at her and nodded, quiet and reserved. “I’m going to check on my grandpa first. We can talk later.”

“Go on,” Anthony said.

Jeremy spent about half an hour with the older relatives. He hadn’t eaten anything since morning, so Shannon had the staff bring him some food. She sat with him while he ate, watching him for a moment before finally asking, “Heather told me there’s a girl you can’t stop thinking about.”

She’d been hoping to set him up with someone while he was home. But Heather had already told her, “Mom, don’t stress about it. Jeremy already fell for someone. He’s waiting for her. You could introduce a thousand girls, he still wouldn’t care.”

Jeremy just glanced at his mother. “Mom, I’ve got things under control. There’s no need to worry.”

Shannon sighed. “Of course I worry. Heather wouldn’t happen to be talking about Ms. Ross, would she?”

Heather hadn’t actually said who it was. But when she brought Felicia over, judging from the way she fussed over her and showered her with compliments in front of everyone, it wasn’t hard to put the pieces together. Shannon watched her son’s reaction and knew she’d guessed right.

“No wonder you don’t care about anyone else. Ms. Ross really is pretty. I heard she works at your company too.”

Jeremy gave a little nod.

“By the way, what’s the latest with Greenway Electrical Services?” Jeremy asked.

Felicia replied, “We can’t change the performance agreement, but Darin agreed to end their deal with Greenway.”

Jeremy nodded. “Sunlight Tech can’t get their hands on Greenway, and that’s what matters. We’ll meet the agreement in two years.”

Felicia agreed.

That night, after the banquet, everyone went outside for a huge fireworks show. Felicia stuck close to Anne, who was absolutely thrilled, eyes wide as the colors lit up the sky. Jeremy stood near them. At one point, his eyes met Felicia’s, just for a second. The fireworks reflected in both their eyes, all bright and dazzling, making the moment feel almost unreal.

Felicia managed a small, awkward smile before glancing away. The connection was broken, but someone nearby snapped a picture, catching that exact instant. The photo made its way around, passing from person to person, until finally it ended up with Max.
