Max showed up at the hospital carrying a thermal food container for Darin.
Darin looked up, surprised. “Why are you here?”
Max set the container down on the bedside table and gave him a gentle smile. “How are you feeling now? Any better?”
“Yeah, a lot better,” Darin replied, though his voice didn’t sound all that convincing.
“You haven’t eaten yet, have you? Come on, have something first.”
Darin turned his face toward the window, his eyes dull and unfocused. “I’m not really hungry. I don’t feel like eating.”
Max studied him for a moment, concern filling his gaze. “Something bothering you?”
Earlier, Yvonne had called Max in a panic, saying Darin wasn't picking up her calls. Max tried calling too, but he couldn't get through either. After checking around with a few people, he finally found out who Darin had plans with that day and learned that Darin had been rushed to the hospital with a sudden headache.
Darin didn’t answer at first. He finally looked over at Max. “You should go home and be with your daughter. I just want to be by myself for a while.”
Instead, Max dragged a chair over and sat down next to the bed. “Anne’s got plenty of company. Right now, you’re the one who could use someone around.”
That made Darin let out a soft, almost helpless laugh. “You’ve definitely gotten more sentimental since Anne was born.”
Max just shrugged. “So, what happened? Talk to me.”
Darin hesitated, then finally said, “I ran into my father today.”
Max’s expression tightened. “Did you say anything to him?”
Darin shook his head slowly. “No. He’s got a new family now. Looks happy, even has a kid. There’s really no reason for me to bother him.” He tried to smile, but it came out twisted with bitterness.
Max held his gaze. “You know, maybe if you’d said hi, he would’ve been glad.”
“Grandma!” Felicia called as she walked into the room.
“Felicia, Greg, here,” someone answered from inside.
Darin stopped in his tracks when he heard the names.
Max noticed. “What’s wrong?”
Darin shook his head. “Nothing. The names just sounded familiar.”
Max didn’t push him. He drove Darin back to his villa.
The house was huge, quiet, and empty.
Yvonne had taken Andrea back to Northwick for the holiday. She’d called to ask Darin to join them, but for the last couple of years, that place hadn’t felt like home to him. He was tired of pretending.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max)
Nothing today...
The story starting to feel dragged out. Nothing much is happening anymore and Felicia and Max are getting kinda boring.. it’s just the same cycle over and over again...
I used to like this story but now it draaaaags :( Now it seems like all characters are problematic and toxic (yes, ALL characters). Wish the author will give some warmth/emotion in this story. 700+ chapters and still no highlight, no exciting part, just pure coldness and expressionlessness lol...
Max and felicia really need to figure things out. Either humble max down and get him to respect his wife. Or let felicia be a free woman. Max is so ignorant and egomaniac...
I've reached chapter 104 with a broken heart huhuuhu. This is so heavy, so sad. I know the chapters onwards will be more lighter. Can't wait for the pay back time....
When will this novel get an end It's dragging so much. Just kill max asap. How much should felicia bare. Give her freedom from that max and anne. Anne is so annoying child. I know she wants to patch up her mother and father. But sometimes it's really boring.please finish the novel soon. Everyday we have to check for the chapter updates. For God sake finish it off. How many more chapters are there . You could have make the novel short and sweet. I wish if it was in theatre we could have finish it soon....
I am waiting for the update, thank you uploader we reader enjoying the story...
Finally! The robot Max is turning into a human....
The longer it takes to update chapters, the faster I lose my interest. Time to find another novel to indulge to, I guess....
