She just assumed Mr. Milman was Felicia’s husband. Felicia stared at her aunt in shock, completely lost for words. Greg was caught off guard too. He never expected his aunt to think Anne was Felicia and Jeremy’s daughter. He opened his mouth to explain, but his gaze drifted to the steps and landed on Max. The man’s expression looked stormy.

Felicia’s aunt didn’t stick around. “The doctor’s about to leave. I’ll talk to you later, my throat is killing me. I need to get some medicine.” She sounded rushed.

Felicia nodded. “Okay.” Greg handed Felicia his car keys and followed his aunt inside.

While they walked toward the clinic, his aunt finally noticed the man on the steps. The second she saw him, her heart skipped a beat. She quickly looked away and hurried inside.

A little farther on, she leaned toward Greg and asked, “Who was that man? He looked like he was staring at us the whole time.”

Greg didn’t answer.

Felicia got Anne settled in the car first. Then she pulled out her phone and texted Greg: [Can you please talk to her and clear things up? I don’t want this turning into some huge misunderstanding.]

Greg saw the message and got it right away. [Alright.]

About half an hour later, Greg and his aunt came out and everyone headed back to West Hill Residence. Since the family had been given a heads-up, nobody said anything awkward when Anne was around.

Still, Felicia couldn’t relax. She ate dinner with Anne, just the two of them, and then sent Anne back to her room to play for a while.

When Felicia finished dinner and went back to her room, she found Anne on her smartwatch, talking to Max. As soon as she saw Felicia, Anne held out the watch. “Evelynn, Daddy wants to talk to you.”

Felicia took the watch and told Anne to go play with her puzzle for a bit. She stepped out onto the balcony, shut the door, and answered the call.

“Hello?”

Max’s voice was as cool and commanding as ever. “Are you going to stay at Oakridge Estate to look after Anne, or is Anne staying with you?”

After a while, she calmed down and tried calling Max back, but he didn’t pick up. What was he trying to do?

Just then, she heard a noise behind her.

Felicia turned and saw Anne standing there. She walked over and put a hand on Anne’s shoulder. “It’s chilly outside, Anne. Go back in.”

“What did Daddy say to you?”

Felicia handed the watch back to her. “Nothing important. Anne, there’s something I want to talk to you about.”

Anne’s big eyes blinked up at her. “What is it?”
