Now that she got a good look at the man who’d just shown up, she couldn’t deny it. Anne looked exactly like him. It was almost uncanny.

“Ava, is that… Anne’s dad?” she asked in a low voice.

Ava’s face went even darker. She didn’t have to say anything. The answer was obvious.

Suddenly, Greg’s aunt realized why he’d looked so upset back at the hospital. She’d actually said, right in front of him, that Anne was someone else’s child. It made her shudder. That man did not seem like someone to mess with.

Felicia grabbed Max by the arm and dragged him outside into the yard. When they were far enough from the house, she spun around and glared at him. “Max, are you out of your mind? What are you even doing here?”

Max looked down at her, his eyes cold and sharp. “Who do you want Anne to call her father?”

Felicia’s eyes widened as it clicked. So that was it. He’d come all the way here just to confront her, just because her aunt had gotten the wrong idea about Anne’s parentage. He had to know it was just a misunderstanding, but he still couldn’t let it go. Typical. He really was the most possessive, impossible man she’d ever met.

Felicia looked him dead in the eye and let out a short, humorless laugh. “So, unless everyone knows you’re Anne’s dad, you won’t be able to sleep tonight, is that it?”

Max just stared at her, silent.

“Fine. Go back inside and announce it to everyone. Tell them you’re Anne’s father. Go on.” She lifted her chin, daring him.

He just stood there, mostly in shadow, a slice of light catching his cheek and making his expression impossible to read.

When he didn’t move, Felicia raised her brows. “If you won’t go, then I’ll call them all out here myself.”

Jeremy’s face darkened on the spot. Greg’s aunt who’d followed them outside stared, eyes wide, finally realizing that Felicia’s so-called husband really was this man.

Before she could say anything, Jeremy was already striding toward them.

Max finally let Felicia go. She gasped for air, still stunned.

Suddenly, a fist swung toward Max. He caught it easily, his gaze icy as he turned to Jeremy. “Mr. Milman, what do you think you’re doing?”

Jeremy pulled his hand back and shielded Felicia behind him. She was still catching her breath.

“Max, maybe you should try showing Felicia a little respect.”
