Luke came straight to the private room to find her. It was Gavin’s first time meeting him. The second Luke spotted Gavin, there was a flicker of caution in his eyes. Men could always sense these things, and Gavin picked up on it right away. He couldn’t help but sigh to himself. Why did Evelynn always have so many guys around her? This one even seemed closer to her than Jeremy.

“Felicia.” Luke moved in and gently helped her up. Felicia had definitely had a few drinks, but nothing too strong. Aside from a bit of dizziness, she was completely aware of what was going on. “I’m fine,” she said.

Gavin stepped forward and offered a handshake. “Nice to meet you. I’m Gavin.”

Luke shook his hand, “Luke Hawthrone.”

The name made Gavin pause. “Are you related to Max?”

Luke seemed surprised. “You know my cousin?”

“We’ve met. So you’re cousins?” Gavin asked.

Luke nodded, his expression cool. “It’s getting late. I’ll take her home.”

Gavin smiled. “Sure.”

Felicia turned to Gavin, saying goodbye. “I’ll talk to you in a couple of days.”

She nodded again, letting Luke lead her out.

Once they were gone, Gavin pulled out his phone and dialed a number. The call was answered almost immediately. “Max, where are you?”

Holden didn’t seem to notice Max at all. Instead, he went right up to Felicia, his lips curling into a faint smile. “Evelynn, long time no see. So you really came back.”

If you didn’t notice the darkness in his eyes, you’d think he was just greeting an old friend. “You look even more beautiful than before,” he said, and there was a greedy glint in his gaze that he didn’t bother to hide.

Felicia’s cheeks were flushed from the wine, her eyes shining under the crystal lights, soft and bright like a peach after a rain. She stared at him, her guard instantly up.

“Felicia, let’s go,” Luke said, breaking her out of her daze. He led her away.

As they passed Max, it was like he was just another stranger in the crowd. Holden turned, his eyes following Felicia’s slender figure, lingering on the curve of her waist.

Max’s eyes narrowed as he watched. He walked up to Holden and asked, “What’s your connection to her?” His voice was flat, revealing nothing.
