“Okay.”

Andrea didn’t move. She kept thinking about that bracelet. Max still hadn’t given it to her, which probably meant he hadn’t really forgiven her yet. Ever since Anne came into the picture, Max had stopped spoiling her the way he used to. Now, even something as small as not focusing on work was enough to make him upset with her.

Max looked up and noticed she was still standing there. “Is there something else?”

Andrea’s fingers curled into a fist, but she stayed quiet. She figured he’d give her the bracelet once he wasn’t mad anymore. Right now, the last thing she wanted was to make things worse.

“I’ll get back to work then,” she said quietly.

Max just made a sound that meant he’d heard her.

Andrea turned and walked out of the office. No sooner had she left than her phone buzzed. It was her mom calling. She found a quiet spot before answering.

“Hi, Mom.”

“Did you see Max?”

Andrea let out a soft, unhappy sound.

Yvonne immediately picked up on her mood. “What’s wrong? Is Max still upset?”

Thinking about Felicia left her with mixed feelings. But she had to put Andrea and the Curtis family first. If Felicia and Max did get a divorce, at least Felicia would be free to find someone better for herself. Yvonne remembered seeing Luke at the hospital. She could tell Luke liked Felicia, and honestly, they looked good together.

That afternoon, after school, Anne called Felicia. There was a family event at school the next day, and Anne really wanted both her parents to go with her.

Felicia wanted to say no, but she heard the hope in her daughter’s voice and just couldn’t refuse. Earlier that day, she’d talked to Sam again about filing for divorce. Now that her business shares were sorted out, she had no more financial ties to Max. But Max wasn’t showing any sign of bringing up divorce himself. She wanted to give him the cold shoulder, but she also didn’t want to drag things out forever. Forcing the issue wouldn’t work either.

After thinking it over for a long time, she picked up her phone and texted Max. [Max, can we talk?]

Max saw the message and knew exactly what she wanted to discuss.
