The more Ava listened, the more her face darkened.

She knew it. Anyone raised by Yvonne couldn’t be anything but trouble.

“Such a good brother, huh?” Ava’s words were tight, her anger barely contained. “So we’re just supposed to forget about what happened to Felicia?”

“Darin showing up to see Colton now isn’t a coincidence. Jeremy’s probably taking care of things. Luke’s already reached out to his brother too.”

Ava let out a long sigh. “Heather’s brother has always treated Felicia well. Both he and Luke are good men, the kind you can rely on.”

But Felicia ended up marrying Max.

Maybe it was just fate.

None of them wanted to get involved in Felicia’s future. She was still married, after all. When the divorce finally went through, her choices would be her own.

“And your father wants to invite him over for dinner. Imagine how Felicia will feel when she finds out her own brother is also Andrea’s brother.”

“I know.”

That would hit Felicia so hard.

Greg spoke up, his voice gentle. “Felicia’s had enough. Work is overwhelming, the divorce isn’t moving, and she’s already under so much pressure. We can’t pile more on. I’m really worried she won’t be able to handle it.”

The idea of Darin coming over was just too much. There wouldn’t be some happy, tearful reunion between siblings. Not now.

“She’ll find out eventually. But for now, we wait. This really isn’t the time.”

Ava nodded. “I get it.”

At the Oakridge Estate, Felicia unlocked her apartment door and stopped dead. Two men stood waiting in the hallway, and she stared at them, wide-eyed.

She’d just come home from working late.

Max pretended not to notice her obvious annoyance. He sounded completely casual. “Just bringing my wife some supper.”

He really was committed to playing the perfect husband.

Felicia didn’t even bother to answer him. Her eyes went straight to the insulated container in Jeremy’s hands. “Thanks, Jeremy. Can I have that?”

Jeremy handed it over. “It’s pumpkin soup. It’ll warm you up. Eat something and get some rest.”

Felicia nodded. “You too, Jeremy.”

Max stood off to the side, completely ignored.

Felicia shot him a cold look, took the container, and closed the door right in their faces. Neither of them had even stepped inside.

Jeremy didn’t glance at Max either. He just turned and walked away toward the elevator.
