The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 519

“Your dad didn’t want you to come home?”

Darin gave a wry smile. There was a trace of bitterness in his eyes. “He has a new family now. It just doesn’t feel right for me to show up when they’re all together. I’d just be an outsider.”

He could tell his dad wanted him there, but he figured the new wife probably wasn’t thrilled about it. He got it.

“What about you?” Darin asked. “Did you finally get your family reunion this year?”

Max smiled, a little crooked. “Yeah. If you’d gotten married back then, your kid would probably be in elementary school by now.”

Darin just shrugged. “Guess that’s how life works.”

Marriage, kids, a family… it all sounded nice, but it made you vulnerable. Back then, staying on his own had felt like the safest choice.

Max seemed to understand, so he didn’t push it.

In the car, Felicia spoke up.

“Honestly, Savannah still isn’t over Darin. She clearly still has feelings for him.”

“And Darin’s still single,” someone pointed out. “Maybe we should set Savannah up with someone even better than Darin.”

Jeremy shook his head. “That’s not going to be easy.”

Felicia let out a long sigh.

“Jeremy, have you ever heard if Darin’s got anyone he’s supposed to marry? Like some kind of arranged match?”

Jeremy shook his head again. “Nope. He’s been too busy fighting it out with the Curtis family these last few years. I doubt he’s had time to even think about marriage. Honestly, for him, getting married and having kids would just slow him down.”

Felicia nodded. “Makes sense. But now that he’s settled things with the Curtis family, they can’t really do anything to him anymore.”

Jeremy glanced at her. “Yeah. But whatever happens, it’s up to Savannah. We just have to let things play out. And you have your own stuff to deal with, Felicia. Don’t worry so much about Savannah. She’s pretty free on her own.”

Felicia turned to look out the window. “You’re right. I am a little jealous of Savannah, honestly. She gets to be single, totally free, no baggage. She can actually take her time and decide what she wants in life.”

The car window reflected her face, soft and a little blurry. Her eyes looked tired, the usual spark gone.

Max nodded. “She’s out. She wanted to wait for you to tuck her in, but you were late, so I put her to bed.”

Felicia went upstairs.

She peeked into Anne’s room first. The little girl was already fast asleep, hugging her favorite bunny.

Felicia sat on the edge of the bed for a few minutes, just watching her daughter breathe.

After a while, she got up and left the room.

She ran into Max at the top of the stairs. He stopped in front of her.

“I put your stuff away in the closet,” he said quietly. “Go get ready for bed. I’ve got some work to finish in the study.”

Felicia didn’t reply.

Max turned and walked straight into the study.
