The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 533

They met up at their go-to spot.

Max found Felicia and said, “I need to head out for a bit. Can you stay with Anne? I’ll try to be back soon.”

Amber was sitting nearby, listening. To her, Max sounded like the perfect, caring husband, but she honestly couldn’t tell if it was real or just for show.

Felicia’s reply was cool. “You don’t have to explain yourself to me.”

Max just gave her a small smile, said a quick goodbye to the elders, and left the Hawthorne estate.

At a fancy club, Darin sat by the window, staring at the falling snow.

Max came upstairs and spotted him right away. Darin looked tense, his whole vibe heavy and closed off. Max walked over, sat down across from him, and glanced at his tight jawline. “Shouldn’t you be with your dad?”

Darin grabbed his glass, knocked back a drink, and set it down hard. He let out a long breath, then turned to face Max. His eyes were almost icy.

Max looked back at him, calm as ever.

Suddenly, Darin let out a quiet, bitter laugh. His voice was sharp. “I don’t think I have any right to judge you.”

His sister hated him now. Felicia’s hurt and angry looks kept replaying in his mind, every memory like a needle to his heart. She’d been right there in front of him, and that strange feeling he’d always had suddenly made sense.

Max said, “You still do.”

Darin fixed his gaze on him. “All this time, and I didn’t even know her name was Felicia.”

Five years ago, Max didn’t care at all about Felicia, so he never mentioned her. Darin hadn’t paid attention. Now, Darin thought of Anthony calling her Felicia, of her dropping her ID, and it hit him that the girl he’d been thinking about was always right there.

He knew Max too well. Nothing ever rattled him. Even if he had to pay for what he’d done, Max would just accept it without blinking. It was like regret or fear just didn’t exist for him.

Max picked up the wine bottle and poured more for Darin, then filled his own glass. “What’s done is done. We can’t change the past, so we just deal with what’s in front of us now.”

“So, do you love her?” Darin asked.

Max set the bottle down, his lips curving in a faint smile. “Whether I love her or not doesn’t really matter. What matters is that we’re both here for Anne. She loves Anne, and I do too. That’s enough.”

Darin stared at him, his eyes searching.

For a moment, the room was so quiet it felt like you could hear the winter wind outside.
