Max’s tone was calm. “No matter how important he once was, she’s married now, with a daughter. Still, I’ll remember what he did for us today, for Felicia’s sake.”

Darin shot him a look. “I doubt Felicia needs you to remember it for her.”

“That doesn’t matter. I’ll remember it anyway.”

Darin glanced at him, then dropped it. “So, who do you think set things up at Roen Capital’s gala tonight?”

“We’ll find out soon enough,” Max replied. “Let’s just have someone look into it.”

The next morning, Jeremy finally woke up, but he was groggy, his mind still foggy.

Felicia arrived at the hospital with Greg and Luke. Heather was already there, waiting outside the room.

She waved them over. “Felicia, Luke, Greg. Hey.”

Greg gave her a polite nod.

Felicia hurried to Jeremy’s bedside, her eyes full of worry. “Jeremy, how are you feeling? Any better?”

Jeremy looked pale and tired, but he managed a gentle, reassuring smile. “I’m alright. The doctor said I just need a month or two of rest and I’ll be fine, so don’t worry.”

Felicia wanted to apologize, but before she could say anything, Jeremy cut her off. “Don’t even think about saying sorry. There’s no way I could just stand by and let something happen to you. Honestly, I’m glad it was me. If you’d gotten hurt, I’d never forgive myself. I couldn’t face your brother or your dad.”

Heather came over and slipped her arm around Felicia, trying to lighten the mood. “My brother’s tough. He can take a hit and keep going. See? He’s fine now. Don’t let it get to you, Felicia.”

Felicia understood what they meant, so she just nodded and didn’t say more.

Greg spoke up. “No matter what, we really appreciate it, Mr. Milman.”

Luke stood off to the side, quiet, his fingers curling tightly at his side for just a second.

A little while later, Savannah and Anthony showed up at the hospital.

Greg stopped at the entrance. “It’s freezing out here. You don’t need to see us off any further.”

Heather hesitated, not wanting him to go. It had been a while since she’d seen him. “Greg, when does your company’s holiday break start?”

Ever since Trey came to the Capital, she’d felt uneasy and hadn’t been able to visit Greg as much.

“One more week,” he said. He reached out and gently patted her head. “It’s got to be hard after your brother during all this. I’ll treat you to dinner later.”

The warmth of his hand and the gentle look in his eyes made Heather’s heart flutter.

She smiled, her cheeks forming two soft dimples. “I will. You take care of yourself too, Greg.”

He let go. “Go on, get back inside.”

As he turned to leave, he spotted Trey walking towards them. Trey’s sharp, almost wickedly good-looking face stood out in the cold wind. His coat billowed behind him, and there was a chill about him that was hard to ignore.
