“Try these on.”
Felicia had already pulled herself together and gently took the shoes from him.
Jeremy slipped her high heels into the box, tucked it back into the bag, then looked at her as she put on the flats. “How do they feel? Comfortable?”
Felicia gave him a warm smile and nodded. “They’re perfect.”
Max watched them both, silent and unreadable.
Darin glanced over, then turned to Max. “Can I talk to you for a minute?”
Max looked away from Felicia and Jeremy, focusing on Darin instead.
The two of them walked off together.
“You came straight from the airport, didn’t you?” Darin asked.
Max just nodded. He’d dropped Anne at home, then headed right here.
Darin paused, looking sideways at him. “What you’re doing only works when two people are genuinely in love. Otherwise, it just feels wrong, you know?”
Max’s lips curled in the barest hint of a smile. He reached for a wine glass, took a slow sip, then met Darin’s gaze. “Isn’t it normal for a husband and wife?”
Darin didn’t say anything, choosing to look somewhere else instead.
A quiet moment passed between them.
Max ran his fingers around the rim of his glass, slowly swirling the wine. His eyes followed the way it moved. “So. Are you thinking about working with Jeremy?”
“If there’s a good opportunity, sure,” Darin said, his voice even. “A partnership isn’t off the table.”
Max took another drink and stared out across the room, his tone impossible to read. “That could work.”
Neither of them spoke after that. The silence felt heavy, settling around them and pressing in.

I've reached chapter 104 with a broken heart huhuuhu. This is so heavy, so sad. I know the chapters onwards will be more lighter. Can't wait for the pay back time....
When will this novel get an end It's dragging so much. Just kill max asap. How much should felicia bare. Give her freedom from that max and anne. Anne is so annoying child. I know she wants to patch up her mother and father. But sometimes it's really boring.please finish the novel soon. Everyday we have to check for the chapter updates. For God sake finish it off. How many more chapters are there . You could have make the novel short and sweet. I wish if it was in theatre we could have finish it soon....
