It was just after six in the evening. Felicia and Max were having dinner together at a Spanish place, sitting across from each other under warm, golden lights.
Halfway through their meal, Max’s phone rang.
Felicia noticed right away that something had shifted in his expression—his jaw tensed, his eyes distant. She pretended to focus on her food, pretending not to notice. Quietly, she ate, waiting for him to finish.
Max ended the call, looked over at her, but didn’t say a word.
After they finished eating, Max paid the bill.
“I have something I need to handle,” he said. “You should go back to the hotel and get some rest.”
Felicia didn’t protest or press him for details. She just stepped outside, and flagged down a taxi to head back on her own.
Monday morning came, cloudy and cool. When Felicia arrived at the office lobby, she bumped into Jeremy. He greeted her with that relaxed, easy smile of his. After the previous night’s banquet, he headed straight to the Milman family house.
“Good morning.”
Jeremy gave a small laugh. “Morning, Felicia. Did you recover after a day off?”
She lifted her lips in a soft smile. “I feel great. Couldn’t be better.”
The workload didn’t faze her at all, and the extra day to recharge meant she was ready for whatever came next.
They walked into the building together. Neither of them mentioned the Curtis family’s banquet, and Felicia was perfectly fine with that. The Curtis family, their drama, all of it had nothing to do with her.
For the next few days, Felicia lost herself in work. She barely noticed what was happening in the outside world. News, gossip, rumors—it all faded into background noise.
Max didn’t call her. He didn’t show up, either.
A few days later, Felicia needed to visit IronGate Industries to check through some numbers.
She packed up her files, reached for her phone, and was ready to head out when her phone buzzed. The message came from an unknown number, a video file.
Her hand closed a little tighter around the phone as she hesitated, but curiosity won out and she pressed play.
The video was shot from inside a car, camera aimed at a hotel entrance. Everything was blurry, the image pixelated and distant. For a second, nothing happened. Then a tall figure walked out of the hotel. Even through the bad resolution, Felicia could recognize his silhouette. It’s Max. That unmistakable profile—the sharp jaw, the height—she never could mistake him.
The Curtis family had been eager and genuine in their partnership. Last year, things moved along smoothly. Thanks to the connection with Roen Capital, the Curtis group had won a major project from Darin at the end of the year. Their partnership was only getting stronger.
After wrapping up the paperwork, Felicia realized there was one document she needed to discuss with Jim in person.
She took the elevator upstairs, following Jim’s assistant through wide, well-lit hallways. As they neared the executive suite, something caught Felicia’s eye—a flash of blue in the lounge area.
A man sat there, striking in a way that made him impossible to ignore. His features were too perfect, a kind of beauty that was almost unnerving: sculpted cheekbones, an delicate complexion even gorgeous than most women’s, and eyes that promised trouble.
Felicia stopped in her tracks, her heart knocking hard in her chest. She couldn’t look away.
He lifted his dark eyes to meet hers. Even before she’d rounded the corner, he must have sensed she was coming—she could see it in the confident tilt of his head.
He folded his newspaper, stood, and slipped his hands into his pockets as he strolled over to her.
He stopped just in front of her, a slow, knowing smile tugging at his lips.
“Evelynn. Long time no see.”

The readers' comments on the novel: The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max)
Nothing today...
The story starting to feel dragged out. Nothing much is happening anymore and Felicia and Max are getting kinda boring.. it’s just the same cycle over and over again...
I used to like this story but now it draaaaags :( Now it seems like all characters are problematic and toxic (yes, ALL characters). Wish the author will give some warmth/emotion in this story. 700+ chapters and still no highlight, no exciting part, just pure coldness and expressionlessness lol...
Max and felicia really need to figure things out. Either humble max down and get him to respect his wife. Or let felicia be a free woman. Max is so ignorant and egomaniac...
I've reached chapter 104 with a broken heart huhuuhu. This is so heavy, so sad. I know the chapters onwards will be more lighter. Can't wait for the pay back time....
When will this novel get an end It's dragging so much. Just kill max asap. How much should felicia bare. Give her freedom from that max and anne. Anne is so annoying child. I know she wants to patch up her mother and father. But sometimes it's really boring.please finish the novel soon. Everyday we have to check for the chapter updates. For God sake finish it off. How many more chapters are there . You could have make the novel short and sweet. I wish if it was in theatre we could have finish it soon....
