The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 812

Max bounded up the stairs and stopped in front of Felicia's bedroom. He knocked twice. When no response came from inside, he gripped the handle, pushed the door open, and stepped inside.

The bedside lamp was still on. Felicia was lying curled up on the bed.

Max walked over and sat on the edge of the mattress. Staring down at the woman, whose brows were tightly knit in pain and whose face was completely drained of color, his dark eyes instantly grew heavy with concern. He reached out to scoop her into his arms.

Startled by the sudden movement, Felicia snapped her eyes open to find the man looming over her. She immediately put her hands against his chest and shoved. "What are you doing here?"

Ignoring her weak resistance, he forcefully pulled her up and settled her sideways onto his lap. Looking down at her fragile state, he slowly raised a hand and used his thumb to gently wipe away a stray tear forming at the corner of her eye. "Are you alright?"

Felicia lowered her gaze, averting her eyes from his intense stare, and tried to push herself off his lap. But the man's arms were like iron bands around her waist, completely unrelenting. He softened his tone and coaxed, "What happened?"

Felicia let out a long, shuddering breath. "Max, let us get a divorce."

Max's gaze turned instantly glacial. He reached up, pinching her chin with just enough force to make her look at him. Forced to meet his eyes, Felicia stared into deep, pitch-black pools that seemed sharp enough to pierce straight through her soul. "Why are you suddenly bringing this up again?" he demanded. "What exactly happened today?"

Felicia forcefully turned her head away, refusing to answer. Her breathing remained agonizingly heavy, her chest rising and falling at a much faster rate than normal. She looked entirely consumed by a sense of profound, inescapable exhaustion.

Sensing her fragile state, Max dropped his hand from her chin and simply pulled her tightly against his chest. Felicia offered no struggle, resting limply in his embrace like a broken doll.

Outside the bedroom, Ava and Colton had rushed upstairs and were standing silently by the half-open door. Colton raised his hand, furious, ready to storm in, but Ava grabbed his arm and shook her head, whispering, "Wait. Just give them a minute."

Colton forcefully dropped his hand, his face pale with suppressed anger, and began pacing anxiously in the hallway.

Inside the bedroom, dead silence reigned. Max simply held the trembling woman in his arms. After a long, agonizing pause, he lowered his head and pressed a firm kiss to the crown of her head. "Do not overthink things. Just get a good night's sleep. I will come pick you up tomorrow."

Outside, Isaac was pacing anxiously by the car, constantly checking his watch. He had just answered yet another frantic phone call from their partners. When Max finally emerge from the gates, Isaac rushed forward and pulled open the rear door.

Max bent down and slid into the backseat. Isaac quickly jumped into the driver's seat and fired up the engine, ready to speed off to the venue.

"Look into what exactly happened with Greenway Electrical Services recently," Max ordered from the back.

Isaac's hands froze on the steering wheel. He could clearly sense the terrifying, suppressed rage radiating from Max. Not daring to ask any questions, he nodded respectfully. "Understood." Privately, Isaac could not help but marvel. Felicia truly was something else. Falling severely ill had actually caused Mr. Hawthorne to care about her far more intensely than ever before.

Back inside Felicia's bedroom, Ava sat gently on the edge of the bed. She placed a comforting hand over the duvet. "Felicia," she called out softly.

Felicia did not move an inch. Her voice, muffled and exhausted, drifted out from beneath the blankets. "Mom, I am fine. I just want to rest for a while. Please, just leave me alone."
