The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max) novel Chapter 834

Max returned to his office, where Isaac immediately handed him a thick dossier detailing the investigation into Felicia's car accident.

Max took the file and flipped through the pages. The truck driver was a fugitive wanted for murder. Just two days before the crash, the man's family had received a transfer of half a million dollars from an untraceable offshore account. Despite the perpetrators' careful efforts to cover their tracks, the investigation had successfully identified the mastermind over the past two days. It was someone who had fled the country five years ago and harbored a massive, deep-rooted grudge against BlueMarble Investments. It was unnerving that someone hiding overseas could orchestrate such a precise hit using local intelligence.

Max finished reading the report, his dark eyes turning lethal and cold. "Dismissed."

Isaac gave a respectful nod and turned to leave the office. It was abundantly clear to him that the moment Felicia was in danger, Max cared about nothing else.

Once the door clicked shut, Max pulled out his phone and dialed a number.

Meanwhile, Ava stayed at Oakridge Estate to keep Felicia company, personally cooking her favorite meals. With Anne happily chattering by her side, Felicia looked genuinely relaxed and joyful. Throughout the entire day, she did not show a single sign of emotional instability. Seeing her so at peace finally put Ava's mind at ease.

After dinner, Ava prepared to head back to her own house. "Sean is still at home. I need to go back and keep an eye on him."

Felicia did not try to make her stay. "Send me a message when you get home, Mom."

Ava smiled and nodded.

Anne waved her little hand happily. "Bye, Grandma."

"Goodbye, sweetie. Remember to come visit Grandma's house soon," Ava cooed.

"I will!"

The driver escorted Ava back to her residence. When she walked through the door, Colton was nowhere to be seen. She took little Sean from the nanny's arms and frowned. "Where is Colton?"

Ava's face instantly hardened, her voice dropping into a sharp, furious scolding. "Did you treat the doctor's warnings like a joke?"

"I swear it was just a tiny sip!" Colton scrambled to defend himself. "I promise I will never drink again."

"How old are you? Are you a three-year-old child?" Ava yelled. "Do I have to watch you every second of the day just so you know what you can and cannot put in your mouth? Felicia was just discharged from the hospital. She can barely eat or sleep properly, and yet you have the mood to go out drinking and feasting! If you have so much free time, why do you not spend it actually caring about your daughter?"

Colton hastily apologized, trying to coax little Sean into helping calm his angry mother down. Ava felt a frustrating mix of fury and helplessness. She sharply ordered the nanny to get Colton some water.

Colton honestly did not feel drunk. He really had only taken a few small sips of alcohol, yet his head had been spinning inexplicably since dinner ended. He could barely remember a single thing he and Ollie had talked about. Shaking his head to clear the fog, he decided not to overthink it, assuming his memory lapse was just a symptom of the alcohol. After getting scolded so viciously, he swore to himself that he would never touch another drop of liquor.

At that exact moment, in a luxurious, high-end villa across the city, Yvonne stared coldly at the corporate guarantee document in her hands. The signature line bore Colton's authentic handwriting.
