Two days later, Felicia officially reported to the branch office to take over operations. She desperately needed work to fill her time and ground her mentally. Getting into the swing of things proved to be a smooth process. The manager she was transitioning with, Keagan, was around forty years old and currently overseeing the collaborative project with Darin's company.
Felicia instructed him to continue managing the project directly, telling him to report back and discuss any issues with her as they arose.
The work over the next few days wasn't overly taxing. Over the weekend, she booked an appointment with a psychologist for a consultation. She had been having trouble falling asleep at night and was experiencing very light sleep. She figured her body was still adjusting to the unfamiliar environment. The doctor adjusted her prescription and gave her some new medication.
After work one evening, Felicia headed downstairs, planning to rent a shared bicycle to ride home. The greenery and overall environment in Cloudville were wonderfully revitalizing. Lately, she had been commuting entirely by bike.
As she stepped out of the office building, she looked up and spotted a figure standing right outside the main entrance.
Darin was dressed in a light-colored, casual outfit. Standing there tall and elegant, he radiated an air of noble refinement, his handsome features drawing the attention of everyone who walked by. It was the evening rush hour, and countless people threw admiring glances his way, turning their heads for a second look.
Darin raised his wrist to check the time on his watch. When he lowered his arm, he caught sight of Felicia, who had stopped a short distance away and was staring at him. A bright smile instantly lit up his eyes. He quickly walked over and stopped right in front of her. "Hi Felicia."
Felicia looked away, offering no response, and continued walking away from the building.
Darin fell into step beside her. "Let's go grab some dinner first. I've already made reservations at a nice restaurant."
Felicia ignored him, keeping her eyes fixed straight ahead as if she hadn't heard a single word.
Darin looked at her profile, his lips pressing into a thin line. He stayed right by her side, not saying another word, until they reached the subway station. Felicia unlocked a shared bicycle.
Darin hurriedly pulled out his phone to do the same. However, since it was his first time using the app, the registration process took a few minutes. By the time he successfully unlocked a bike, Felicia had already ridden quite a distance ahead. He pedaled hard to catch up, eventually riding right next to her.
"Are you adjusting well to the work here?"
"Do you bike to and from work every day?"
"Cloudville's environment really is perfect for cycling. It's been a long time since I've had a proper bike ride."
Darin looked down at her, his handsome face softening with a gentle smile. "I live here too. If you need anything, Felicia, you can come find me anytime."
Felicia's eyes darkened. She spun on her heel and strode away without another word.
Darin stood in place, watching her retreating figure, and let out a long, heavy sigh.
When Felicia got back to the apartment, dinner was already waiting for her. After eating, she leaned back on the sofa to watch some television.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed.
Felicia glanced at the screen. It was Max calling.
It was currently morning in New York. Whenever Max had a free moment, he would send her a message. If she didn't reply, he would immediately call her, as if he was desperate to know what she was doing every single second of the day.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Ugly Wife’s Stunning Comeback (Felicia and Max)
Is this coming to an end...
Oh nooo!! Don’t tell me Max will get washed ashore on a remote island then loses all his memory, then falls inlove with the local girl who saves him. Then when he meets Felicia again he won’t recognize her and breaks her heart again. Additional plot twist is that Felicia is pregnant with their 2nd child. Please pleaseee don’t give us this scenario.. LOL!!!...
If Max can be forgiven Darrin can be forgiven. And I do not like this marriage business but if it has to happen I hope after he gets stranded on some remote island alone while Felicia and his family fight over custody she wins and also gets half his estate. Then by time he comes back she's found having and remarried. Lol...
The writer is good. They're making me interested in Max. I won't say like yet....
It seems the only one who hasn't suffered is Max. Even his family fakes anger and disappointment all their own doing so they suffer a little. Everyone else has suffered. Luke and Jeremy unrequited. Felicia has suffered the most from family to unrequited to romance to long suffering Mother. Even baby Anne never had a mother til Felicia suffered then came back only to suffer some more. lol...
Oh no what did Colton do?... I have a bone to pick. When Olisha had to go the hospital why beg for Felicia? When she so loved Max? Seemed like she was in on the setup for Felicia to see a suicide for the 2nd time orchestrated by holden and his brother again. I might drop this series it's becoming endless with no real satisfaction for me. I don't need it to end because it's like a soap opera but if things don't end up making sense, tying up loose storylines it's gonna get old fast for me. Good luck author....
Anne, I think your baby brother is on the way. Thank goodness it doesn't say that Felicia is crying just like the last time but still, there's no willingness on her part. Max! You need to try harder. Make her fall in love with you again....
The writer did a big one with Jeremy's speech to Max. He said almost everything that needed to be said. I have wanted Felicia or someone who knows the past to just tell that whole stinking family what they did and how disgusting they are and what they're doing now how unfair it all is to Felicia. A pity it was only Max but he really needed to hear this (plus more)....
I love the chase of this novel, how you’ve build each of the characters. They almost seem like real. I feel like I know them irl. But however I would like to know what’s max’s pov and what’s going on in his head. I truly believe max’s just a grey character. And also please please please update more!!!...
I was really hoping that Max and Felicia would end up together, but why did Max do that to Felicia? 😭 Is that his way of making Felicia overcome the trauma Holden caused her? I don't think that's helping at all. I just hope Max's character has some redeeming qualities in the coming chapters....
