Felicia gently guided Anne back down onto her chair. "Alright, sit nicely now."

Handing the phone back, Anne insisted, "Mommy, send it to Daddy."

Taking the device, Felicia resignedly forwarded the picture to Max before setting the phone on the cabinet behind her. This minor interruption did nothing to dampen the cheerful mood.

Sitting at the head of the table, Colton wore an unbreakable smile. "It is rare for us to have such a lively gathering. Heather, you probably do not know yet, but let me introduce you. This is my son, Felicia's biological older brother."

Anne tilted her little head, her face a picture of pure confusion. "If Uncle Darin is Mommy's brother, why did we never know him before?"

"You will understand when you grow up," Colton replied gently.

Anne found the whole situation fascinating. If Uncle Darin was Mommy's brother, what did that make Daddy and Uncle Darin?

"Alright, everyone, dig in," Colton announced, placing some food into Darin's plate.

"Dad, I can serve myself," Darin quickly protested.

"Eat up, eat up," Colton urged with a hearty laugh.

The large table buzzed with casual chatter and the joyful sounds of children, creating an exceptionally warm and festive atmosphere.

She typed back a quick reply. "If you want the treats, you can easily buy some in New York."

Max replied instantly. "The ones here will never taste like home."

Felicia texted back, "Then you can eat as much as you want when you get back."

Max's response came just as fast. "You could always bring some over for me."

Frowning at the screen, Felicia felt as though he was acting like she had already agreed to fly over to see him. Just then, Savannah called out to her, giving Felicia the perfect excuse to ignore his message altogether. The rest of the afternoon stretched out before them, feeling neither too long nor too short.
