Mother Final Line
The voice came from across the room.
Mr. Martinez stepped in, arms folded across his chest. His expression was firm, immovable.
“You need to leave.”
Janet stared at both of them, stunned. “You’re choosing her? Over me? A random woman who just appeared back one day?”
“Hannah has been in Elijah’s life and she has done so much more that than you ever did with all these years you spent with him,” Mr. Martinez said. “She makes him happy, she has given him two great joys and we can actually see she cares for him.”1
Janet flinched.
Mrs. Martinez nodded toward the entrance. “Security will escort you out.”
“No,” Janet whispered, shaking. “No, please. I just… I just want Elijah back. I want my life back. Please. Please don’t do this.”
Mr. Martinez’s tone softened…barely. “Get help, Janet. Before you ruin yourself completely.”
Two guards approached. Janet backed away, but they didn’t touch her. They simply waited.
