Healed Enough to Feel
HANNAH’S POV:
A WEEK AFTER:
After we had visited his parent’s mansion, for a split second I felt bad for Janet, but I was more embarrassed and disgusted by her desperation and how it was making her do crazy things like carrying a gun to attack me in front of my kids. Because of the costume she had on that day, the twins were now friend of Mickey Mouse and ran to hold me whenever they even saw the cartoon or a figure.
I could still feel Amelia’s fingers digging into my blouse that day, trembling, terrified, asking me to take them home. Amelia would say, “Mommy, don’t let her hurt you.” Anytime we walked past it at a store and run away.
My heart cracked every time they reacted.
But they were healing. Slowly. Andrew especially seemed to be bonding deeply with Elijah. The moment he walked through the door every evening, Andrew lit up like someone flipped a switch inside him shouting “Daddy!” before his brain even caught up with the words. The way Elijah always paused, always froze for a split second in stunned silence before bending and scooping him into his arms, would never stop warming me. Elijah would get teary eyes every single thing and it was the most beautiful sight, especially watching as Andrew would start telling him about his day and Elijah would listen and ask questions.
Amelia would then interrupt and ask have Elijah pick her up even while still in his suit.
Watching him be a father was amazing but there was problem was…I was falling for him. And I knew he could see
At breakfast that morning, Elijah was sitting carefully, still adjusting when certain movements tugged at the newly-healed flesh of his shoulder. Every now and then he winced, trying to hide it behind a straight posture and a tight jaw. I noticed, of course. I always notice everything where he is concerned especially since after the accident.
We were finishing breakfast…eggs, sausages, chocolate chip pancakes for the twins…when he said, almost casually:
“How about we go to Reldives for the weekend? Or have you three been there?”
My eyes snapped up in surprise and excitement.
Reldives. One of the most stunning private island countries in the world… turquoise water, floating villas, white sand that looked photoshopped, food so good people considered moving their whole lives there. It was also my dream vacation spot that I thought of going there with the love of my life. I had seen so many beautiful couples go there for vacation and for their honeymoon and take pictures by the beach. 1
