The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back) novel Chapter 108

Somewhere Beautiful

HANNAH’S POV:

He watched me with that unreadable look…the one that always made my stomach flip.

“You don’t have to fuss over me,” he murmured.

I looked up. “Elijah, you got shot protecting me. You’re lucky I haven’t wrapped you in bubble wrap/

He chuckled, and then winced again, hand flying instinctively to his shoulder.

I instantly took his hand off it and pressed lightly at the edge of the bandage, checking the swelling.

“You shouldn’t be moving so much,” I whispered.

His voice was lower now, softer. “I promise I’m okay.”

“I know. But let me care for you.”

The way he looked at me then almost made me forget how to breathe.

We headed out after the twins came down with their little backpacks filled with gadgets, dolls, coloring books, and a half-stuffed rabbit named “Mo,” who had mysteriously lost one ear. It was a serious joke. Elijah carried their bags with one hand stubborn man and ignored my sympathetic stare.

“Stop worrying,” he whispered looking at hom

“Too late,” I shot back.

The mall was surprisingly quiet for the weekend. The twins rushed into the children’s boutique like energy in human form, dragging Elijah inside while I followed, laughing under my breath at how quickly he was being overthrown by two mini versions of me.

Andrew held up a T-shirt decorated with tiny airplanes.

“Daddy, I want this!”

Elijah smiled. “Get two.”

Amelia found a beach hat with a bow almost bigger than her head.

“Mommy look! I’m a princess!”

“Yes, Your Highness,” I played along, bowing dramatically.

But Elijah nudged me gently. “She’s not just a princess.” He bent down. “She’s the CEO of a multinational princess corporation.”

Amelia giggled and slapped a tiny hand over her mouth.

We picked swimsuits, matching floral shirts for the plane, sunscreen lotions, sunglasses, and comfortable sandals. I even grabbed a deep red swimsuit I hadn’t intended to buy, but the second I saw Elijah’s eyes flick over it and widen slightly, something inside me reacted.

He didn’t comment.

But he didn’t need to.

His face was comment enough.

We ended with lunch in the mall food court-just something simple before the flight. Elijah tried cutting his grilled chicken, but midway he paused, a microsecond of pain tightening his jaw. I gently moved his plate closer, taking the knife from him.

“Let me.”

He sighed, embarrassed. “Hannah-

“Elijah.” I arched a brow. “Let me.”

He gave in.

The twins watched with wide eyes.

Amelia leaned over and whispered loudly to her brother, “Mommy and Daddy are in love.”

Andrew nodded sagely. “We should get ice cream.”

I snorted.

But Elijah…

He looked like he might choke on air.

After lunch, we boarded the jet. The twins squealed as soon as they saw the luxurious seats, the wide windows, the built-in mini screen with games.

Andrew tugged Elijah’s sleeve. “Can we play Monopoly?”
