The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back) novel Chapter 139

A Weak Signal

ELIJAH’S POV:

Every corner reminded me of Hannah. The way she laughed in the kitchen like this one time when she tried to make mashed potatoes and pasta, it was so bad the kids and I couldn’t even pretend for too long. She wasn’t even mad about it because as soon as she ate it she immediately laughed out loud and asked me to order take out. While in the shower, I couldn’t only recall the way she hummed in the shower even when we showered together and she held me. As I walked down the stairs, I could hear the way she complained about the twins hiding her shoes and running every single time. And as I got into the living room, I could just see her curled up on the couch wearing her glasses with her eyes glued to her iPad as she made sketches. She always looked so attractive, so perfect and when she would notice me staring, she would frown and call me a ‘creep’.

God, the silence was loud enough to drive me insane.

I collapsed onto the couch in the living room, scrubbing my hands down my face. I hadn’t slept. I couldn’t sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw her bound, crying, calling my name.

Today, however, just like every other day I was hopeful. I took the kids to school and now they had returned and were taking a nap in Hannah’s room. But I had heard absolutely nothing. My messages just included everyone checking up on me and asking whether I wanted to be on the news talking about all that was going on.

I couldn’t help but frown, talk about it? For what? It was enough that her picture as well as Janet’s and a reward for whoever finds out anything was offered. Was this some kind of publicity for something?

I kissed my teeth in irritation, leaned back and squeezed my eyes shut as the ache in my chest intensified.

God, Hannah… where are you?

I dragged myself up after a few minutes and headed to the kitchen, poured myself a glass of water I barely touched, then returned to the living room. I had only eaten cookies and coffee, and wondered if Hannah was even eating. I already knew the answer and it broke my heart. I was pacing when my phone rang again.

This time, the screen displayed the name I had been silently begging to see.

Godfather.

My heart slammed painfully as I answered. “Sir.”
