Becoming Hannah Again
HANNAH’S POV:
“Sorry for keep you waiting.” He apologized placing his suit jacket on the rack.He looked younger than I had picture with handsome facial features. He had on a simple white tee with a blue and white stripe tie and grey pants.
“It’s fine. I was early.” I responded and he smile taking a seat.
I sat across from Mr. Rowan, the CEO of one of the biggest fabric companies in the country, my notes neatly stacked, figures memorized. Lucas had prepped me for days, but I hardly needed the push I lived and breathed Prestige, my company, my empire.
“Ms. Jones,” Rowan began, his smile practiced but warm. “Your reputation precedes you. Everyone warned me you’re a tough negotiator.”
I arched a brow, tapping my pen against my notebook. “Then you should’ve come prepared.”
His laugh echoed lightly around the room. “Touché. Let’s talk numbers.”
The negotiation stretched over an hour, going back and forth between price points, delivery schedules, and quality guarantees. He tried charm, humor, even a touch of feigned exasperation, but I didn’t budge until I saw the numbers I wanted.
Finally, he leaned back in his chair, running a hand through his neatly styled dark blonde hair. “You’re relentless. I admire that.”
“Relentless keeps my company thriving,” I replied crisply, sliding the signed agreement across the table. “Fifteen percent cut. Effective immediately. That’s what I came for.”
He studied me, then chuckled. “I underestimated you. Most people beg for my approval. You walked in expecting victory.”
I capped my pen and stood, extending my hand. “Approval doesn’t pay bills.”
He shook it, his grip firm. But instead of letting go immediately, his gaze softened. “Tell me, Ms. Jones… How does someone like you unwind? Surely it’s not all contracts and designs.”
I blinked, momentarily thrown and answered swiftly “Depends who’s asking.”
He tilted his head. “A man who’d like to buy you dinner.”
The words hung in the air, not heavy, not predatory just… an invitation.
My pulse quickened. For a heartbeat, Elijah’s shadow loomed in my mind, his voice, his hands, the nightmares of the past. But Rowan wasn’t him. Rowan was charming without cruelty, confidence without control.
I thought of Maya’s voice at the café. Move on, Hannah. Stop burying yourself in the past.
And before I could overthink it, I found myself smiling faintly. “Dinner.”
